Tamworth Performance Horse Clinic

Our Horsemanship For Performance 3 day clinic has now been run with rave reviews in Wauchope, Glenreagh and on the Gold Coast - and now we are heading to Tamworth!

July 16, 17 & 18 we will be in Tamworth, taking our horses through the Horsemanship For Performance Curriculum.

No matter if you are working cattle, competing in dressage, or if you simply like to head out on a relaxing trail on the weekends, we are all looking for the same attributes in our horses - balance (mental and physical), confidence, calmness, responsive to our requests, supple, strong and able to travel in self carriage, just to name a few.

We develop these attributes (and more) over the 3 day course - beginning on the ground to allow our horse to travel without our weight or that of the saddle, and to allow us a better view of how he is travelling and where he needs to improve.  Then into the saddle we explore control of the different body parts of our horses, and how to encourage correct movement through our foundation essentials.  Onto our core skills to develop our performance horse, and into the biomechanics of the rider and how we affect our horses movement.  Each day includes a theory session to explore further what we have covered.

This 3 day course is an intensive course open to all levels of horse and rider.

Opportunity Knocks!

I often get contacted by groups that would like to have a TKH clinic in their area, and often the clinics are booked 6 - 12 months in advance - I have 1 weekend available on July 30 & 31!!  If you have a group of people who are interested in having a clinic in your area, and these dates suit - contact us today and we can organise it!
Cross Training - A must for any horse!

I have just returned home from teaching a 2 day ' Trust on the Trail' clinic in the Northern Rivers.  The location was a great grounds which included a large Cross Country course, which we used to build the trust between horse and rider.  We used bridges, jumps, water crossing, logs, poles, drop downs, jump ups - all scattered through a bush like trail.

The clinic was, as expected, fantastic.  The trust that developed between horse and rider was huge!  We started on the ground, and then under saddle navigated the obstacles, we really got the horses and the riders thinking about where their legs were, and where the feet had to be in order to safely navigate obstacles.

What we didn't anticipate was how relaxing it was for both the horses and the riders.  This group has been training monthly with me for some time, and our last few clinics have all been on the development of our core skills -  collection, self carriage, soft feel, focus etc.  So while the trust on the trail clinic was challenging at times in terms of navigating obstacles, it was a great 'break' from core skills training that I think we all enjoyed.

I frequently cross train with my horses - beach rides, trails, clinics , arena work, and I believe this is how they stay so mentally and physically balanced.

Cross doesn't have to mean you throw away 'training', it may simply be a different type of training to give everyone a much needed 'break from the norm'.

Food for thought,

Tanja

Of Course!  I'm A Horse!

Many of you know that Tanja has written the first of a series of kids books.  The books have a horsey theme (of course!) and help kids understand and deal with some of the issues they may face.  The first book - Of Course!  I'm A Horse!  Helps children understand that everybody has different abilities and talents, and it is important to focus on your own abilities instead of comparing yourself to others.  The book is beautifully illustrated by the Talented Deb Hatley - and you can see just one of the illustrations above (the photo doesn't do it a lot of justice, it was just taken on a phone). So know that the book is complete, Tanja and Deb are looking to publish!  So this is a call out for anyone who may have some helpful hints, or information on how we would go about it.  Tanja has been published in the adult non fiction area before, but kids books are a whole new ball game!  Thanks in advance for any information.
