DOG NEWS

June Rescue News

NMAF got a call from a people shelter reporting a mama dog with puppies under one of their buildings.  The dog had been seen going across a busy street, probably to secure food.  They reported that no other "rescue" group had even returned their calls.  Gloria and Alan showed up within a few hours to assess the situation.  By the time they got there, the puppies were no longer under the building and Mama was nowhere to be seen.  But a kitten was spotted.  There was no readily available food or water despite the heat.  Plans were made to trap both Mama and the kitten.

Gloria came back with the appropriate traps.  During the night, both were trapped.  Turned out the puppies had not been seen for several days.  Mama was eager to get back to where they had been, but they were not there.  The kitten was taken to
Street Cat Hub for treatment for a hernia as it had already been neutered.  Once Mama had been trapped, she turned into a sweet little girl.  She is now home with Gloria awaiting adoption and spay.  See her on the website or on Petfinder.  Her new name: Chimama!!

Two exciting rescues for NMAF!

June Medical News

Image of Allister
Allister

Allister arrived from Carlsbad with an oozing lesion on his neck.  A seven year old Schnauzer with a sweet personality, he was taken to TLC for an evaluation.  It was discovered that in addition to the lesion, he had several bad teeth and another lesion on his tail.  Concerns that the lesion was cancer were expressed.  Surgery was scheduled to treat all, and in the meantime, an adopter was found!

Several teeth and the tail lesion were removed.  The neck lesion was cleaned, biopsied, sutured and sent for pathology reports.  The reports came back that it was not cancer and probably a result from a foxtail or wound that had not healed.  Within the week, Allister was back to his happy, calm self and happy in his new home with his new Schnauzer companion.

The adopter gave NMAF an extra $100 towards his bill!  And the rest of the costs were covered by garage sales and the kind donations of our generous donors.

June's dog adoptions included Prince, Sly, Odie, Sultan, Cody, Sir Rocky, Denton, Turbo, Winter, Dolly, Remax, Holly, Mister, Pierce, Eva, and Cesar!  Intakes were Sultan, Turbo, Winter, Remax, Radcliffe, Mister, Dynamo, Dolly, Holly, Cleo, Eva, Peeper, Cesar, Boezy, Rita, Cesar II, and Chimama ... A rocking June for NMAF!!!

CAT MEWS

Romeow, Romeow, wherefore art thou, Romeow ...?

... where else but at PetSmart on Academy Road!  Please don’t miss him at Saturday clinic, from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., where you can meet and fall in love!

Romeow

Romeow is only 7 months old and is a dreamboat!  This beautiful juvenile cat is a sweetheart!  Born in November, 2015, he is a stunning black (silver) tabby shorthair.  Healthy, neutered, he is ready to meet his Juliet!

We think he would enjoy having a cat or dog playmate, as he grew up around both species.  He fetches, lap-sits, and loves to fall asleep on your chest, right under your chin, so that you can kiss his sweet head.  He even likes tummy-rubs, once he gets to know you!

Sally Sue and Ellie Mae

Please visit them at PetSmart on Saturday!  This sweet "matching set” of female 8-year-old siblings lost their home when their adopter passed away recently.  Please stop by to say hello!

James Bond, at your service ...

James is daringly eager to meet you!  Born in March of this year, he is always decked out in his shorthair black-and-white tux.  He is healthy and neutered, and lives among other cats and a dog in his foster home.  Please come and meet him, too, at PetSmart on Saturday!

The Harry Potter gang of kittens (Luna, Poppy, Ginny, and Fred) is arriving at adoption clinics absolutely exhausted!  They seem to have such an exciting life in their foster family’s home, with the dog and the kids, that they want to sleep the whole time they’re at PetSmart!

Here is the video of them ... resting, at clinic.

Handsome Sasha (aka Leo) is back at adoption clinic after a hiatus.  He will be happy to say hello to you and rub your hand with his head.  He is a magnificent and charming cat who is looking for a foster or an adoptive home.  We invite you to come and visit him at PetSmart on Saturday!

Susan Twinkletoes is becoming more loving as time goes on.  Her history in a home with eleven other cats did not include much one-on-one time with her human, and there was no one to make a fuss over her.  She’s learning to cozy up and purr alongside her foster mom, helping her write emails and getting strokes in between the paragraphs.  She is very subdued at adoption clinics, but she is always sweet.

Here is Decker, ready to be shipped special delivery to his new home, with no postage due!  He is a fun-loving package, sure to make you smile ... You can visit Decker on Saturday, too!
