JULY 2016

Under 12s State Championship Wrap-up

The Under 12s State Championships held over the June long weekend was the most successful of the 8 State Championships we have held at our Facilities since 2009.

Collectively there were over 10 Club members who virtually worked full time for over 11 hours a day for the 3 days of the Championships. Not to mention the months of preparation that went into it. 6 ladies worked voluntarily in the Canteen over all 3 days.

The organisers were hampered by having the fields flooded days before the Event. They spent the days leading up to the Championships pumping out up to 40 cm of water under the Clubhouse and areas around the fields. Both fields were hand raked to remove the large amount of debris left behind from the flood waters.
For the statistically minded people amongst us, we sold 700 Bacon & Egg Rolls, 600 Scotch Fillet Steak Sandwiches, 18 dozen Muffins. We received close to 20 emails from attendees complementing the Club. We were inundated all weekend with positive comments. We went through over 250 rolls of toilet paper, 29 5kg bags of Frozen Chips, 40 dozen bottles of water, so much soft drink & Powerade that it was not possible to keep an accurate tally. There were over 400 cars parked in the Hayter Reserve Carpark each day, all expertly managed by a handful of our Golden Oldies. There were 3 large bins & 20 wheelie bins of rubbish removed from the site after the event. There were 368 players involved in the 16 teams competing.

The final was won by West Harbour over Manly and the presentations were made by former Wallaby Mark Gerrard.

It was hard work but great fun to be involved and the organisers look forward to many more Club Members getting involved and helping out over the coming years. Yes, the NSWJRU have already asked us to run it next year, a true testament to our wonderful Facilities and wonderfully hard working, friendly people we have involved with our Club

News from behind the Counters

We have been running several new lines in the Canteen & Bar of late.
Earlier in the year we ordered Scotch Fillet steaks for our Steak Sandwiches, these have been very well received with sales doubling at the 2016 U12s State Championships compared to the previous year. We have received numerous positive comments from our visitors this year about the quality of our food.
Cartons of Pringles and new lines of confectionery from our Sponsor Lolliland are also proving popular. Giant Muffins in varieties of Apple, Blueberry and double Chocolate were so popular at the U12s Carnival that we sold 18 dozen of them. They are now a fixture on our Canteen menu.

For the Bar patrons, the Sponsors at Sponsors Day took to the James Squires One Hundred and Fifty Lashes so we are adding this line to the Bar fridges. Our Club Sponsor the Crown Hotel advised that the players have taken a real liking to Canadian Club & Dry on tap, so not to disappoint we are adding this to our keg selection.

We are indeed fortunate to have friendly, hard working Volunteer Canteen Staff who are doing a wonderful job promoting our Club. We are also blessed to have RSA qualified, friendly and efficient Bar Staff.

Clubhouse Report

The “Friday Work Crew” continue to maintain and repair things around the clubhouse and fields especially after the “floods” in early June. As everyone knows the entire area of Camden Rugby Park was inundated with about 400mm of water including under the clubhouse.

Unfortunately water go into the container containing the training gear which then required a total cleanout and tidy up, which has now been completed, including new hangers for the “pig tail” rope holders. All users of this equipment are asked to maintain this container in a neat and tidy way to ensure that the valuable equipment is protected.

A new sensor light has been installed on the rear ramp which will make the use of this during the night much safer. And The new fire is proving very successful, especially with the cold weather we have been experiencing of late.

A new freezer is now in place following the “death” of our old beauty and the scoreboard is also now operating correctly again, with a new transmitter.

The Club would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding for the inconveniences due to the park and field closures because of the wet weather.

Golden Oldies

The undefeated world famous Camden Weathered Rams travelled to the Eastwood Charcoals Gala Day. 10 members attended and Penrith Legless Emus begged to play with us due to our stylish and entertaining playing style, they even offered a bloke called Jeremy Paul to play with us, after much discussion Lyle “Beanie Thief” Mclean succumbed to a heart problem and retreated to the warmth of the Eastwood Clubhouse and we let this young bloke play.

Greg Wine who has a keen eye for footballers stated that this young bloke could probably play 70 odd games for the Weathered Rams (much like some other bloke called Jeremy Paul did for the Wallabies) if he keeps focused and listens to advice from Wazza and not Alec Kimber.

Highlights of the trip were Richo’s bus driving and his 18 point turn in the Vauxhall Inn’s car park and Peter “Pooch” McBride for drinking with Grant Millar.

Near disaster at Camden Rugby Clubhouse

During the past week somebody, whilst obviously being well meaning, cleaned out the ashes from the fire in the Clubhouse. Unfortunately the ashes were put into a plastic tub and were still hot. The attached photo shows the result. The tub melted through and the floor of the club was burnt.

This could have ended in disaster with the Clubhouse being burnt to the ground.

Whilst the Committee appreciates all the work and efforts put into our Club and definitely doesn’t want to discourage people from maintaining these efforts, we would like to ask everyone associated with the Club to please take care when doing tasks at the Club and to ensure that tasks are completed with all possible outcomes considered.
