Take, eat; this is my body. // Matthew 26:26

This Sunday: July 3, 2016
We Are What We Eat - Pt. 1/5

“Food is a gift of God given to all creatures for the purposes of life’s nurture, sharing, and celebration. When it is done in the name of God, eating is the earthly realization of God’s eternal communion-building love.”

― Norman Wirzba, Food and Faith

During the month of July, Church of the Apostles will focus our liturgies on various aspects of and processes involving ... FOOD.

Ways to engage this season:

  • Lend us your books and magazines relating to food for our seasonal library
  • Bring non-perishable food items to be donated to Ballard Food Bank
  • Attend the July 31st Annual Pie Baking Contest Fundraiser & Potluck
... more details further down in the newsletter ...

Lend us your food books!

and magazines
During our July services, we will have books and magazines relating to various aspects of food, spirituality, and nutrition available for perusing. Please bring items from your personal library to lend to us this season.
** Items are not intended to leave the Abbey - simply to be made available on Sundays, as a reference section, if you will. **

Food Drive this July

for Ballard Food Bank
COTA is hosting a Food Drive this month to benefit the Ballard Food Bank.

Please bring non-perishable food items with you to church - Sundays in July. There will be a labeled bin at the entrance to place donations.

Click here for a full list of needed/accepted items.

We will also need a volunteer each Sunday to transport the donations and deliver them to BFB. Just raise your hand when we make the request during Family Biz!

Annual Pie Baking Contest

Fundraiser & Potluck

Sunday, July 31, 6:30pm
The Pie Baking Contest is back! Come one, come all - put your best pie on the table and compete for eternal glory and bragging rights! Or, come with your eatin' clothes on and try them all! You be the judge of which pie will reign supreme. You won't regret digging in for a great cause - we are using all proceeds to go to our ordination fund, to support those on the ordination path at COTA. We have a proud tradition of creating future leaders for the church and this event is a chance to contribute and hear their stories!
Please come and bring either: a dinner potluck item to share AND/OR a blue-ribbon pie, your appetite, and cash or card to donate!

Instructions for bakers: bring your pie (and serving utensil) downstairs on 7/31 - we will have cards to list the title and allergen info. Top three pies will place, with prizes and bragging rights. Will you be able to topple Olivia's (GF!) masterpiece, touch Amy's lemon/blueberry bonanza, or beat Julie's rosemary crust? Put on your apron and start your oven! Especially consider: baking a GF or vegan pie, and special challenge to the male-identified folks of the congregation: bring it!
