Bare Muddy Patches on Whitley Common!
A regular dog-walker on Whitley Common sent us this information:
Councillor Bailey,
Thought this might interest you, for about a week now I have noticed bare muddy patches appearing on Whitley Common and I could not figure out the cause. Today I found out!
We have a couple of men digging various areas to carry out metal detecting and they are digging indiscriminately.
They’re not putting the turf back very well and the ground is uneven. So I’ve taken it upon myself to level the ground with the mole-hill soil. After all the recent rain the sites are now not looking too bad.

Blocked Gullies in Daventry Road
A resident in Daventry Road sent us this email.
This is concerning 2 blocked gullies in Daventry Road located on the odd numbered side just before the traffic island. Both have weeds growing over them.
The gullies used to be cleaned at regular intervals but this does not seem to happen anymore?

Roger contacted the relevant department. The resident has just informed us that they’ve since been cleared and had ‘passed the test’ of coping with all the current rain.

Road repairs in Sunbury Road
A resident sent this with respect to recent road repairs:
I thought as I requested the road repairs to Sunbury Road (although some time ago) it would be only polite to say Thank you. They were done yesterday (27th June). Plane and Patch. A few areas were successfully completed.

Petition - Additional Parking on Slip Road off London Road
Roger received the following update with respect to this petition  - from Karen Seager, Head of Traffic and Network Management:
The Council does not have sufficient resources to satisfy the requests we receive for verges to be converted for parking. However, a review is currently being conducted of the Council’s Residents Parking policy. As part of this review, consideration will be given to whether residents willing to fund such works could be permitted to do so in the future. We will contact you again if a change in policy is approved.

Erection of Low Carbon Technology Centre overlooking London Road Cemetery
Ian Woolley, Chairman of the Friends of London Road Cemetery has sent us this:
I would like to bring to your attention the proposed construction of the Low Carbon Technology Centre for Coventry University. It will take up the remaining plot of land on the corner of Quarryfield Lane directly opposite the Cemetery.

As well as it being at least three floors in height and clad in a very dark material with no windows, there will also be a chimney 15 metres high. Please look at this artist's impression to see the impact this construction will have on the Cemetery and its surroundings.
We hope that some of you will feel strongly enough about this to send a letter of objection. If five or more letters are sent there will have to be an appeal process asking for changes to be made to the plans.
This matter is of the up-most urgency as things appear to suddenly be moving quickly with some of the finer details of the finished project being rather vague.

Save Baginton Fields
There have been a number of false rumours regarding the plans for Baginton Fields and Stonehouse Estate, please see below an email from a resident and a response
Dear Councillors,
Banners and posters are appearing on the Stonehouse Estate featuring a photo of a fox and the above statement with a facebook site of the same name.
Last weekend I met two dog walking gentlemen at the Southport Close bridge who informed me that the Council are going to start building houses imminently on the football fields beyond Sebastian Close, and that the Stonehouse Estate would be devastated. They were adamant that their information been obtained from the City Council website.
My understanding of the situation obtained at the Council's Exhibition at Whitley Academy at the end of last year, is that land including those fields and the Henry VIII playing fields has been earmarked for "Potential Employment". Any future development there would be accessed by a new road from the Jaguar/Coventry Gateway North site.  Stonehouse Estate would not be touched by any of this future development, and the present roads and housing would remain and not be extended or demolished.
I wonder whether you could confirm or otherwise these statements as scaremongering or the truth, as Stonehouse Residents need to be kept in the picture and at present a worse case scenario seems to be dominant.

A fellow ward councillor picked up this concern and received the following response from Mark Andrews , Planning and Housing Policy Manager:
Dear Councillor,
Thank you for your email. I can confirm that your understanding is correct. There are no plans to build homes in this area. The site is however earmarked as a future expansion opportunity for Whitley Business Park within our draft Local Plan to help create jobs and economic growth for the local area and city as a whole.

As part of that allocation, and as explained at the public meetings earlier this year, we would expect the vast majority of the highest value landscape features to be retained as part of the employment development as it would help to provide appropriate buffering to the existing Stonehouse Estate and support investment in wider ecology and biodiversity in the area. As the development materialises over time we are then more than happy to look again in detail at the area and to work with local residents to identify the most appropriate aspects as Local Green Space.
