Job Opportunity

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR AT NUS

A tenure-track position in Japanese politics/international relations in International Relations and Political Science, Department of Japanese Studies (with joint-position in the Global Studies Program), National University of Singapore is vacant. The position is to begin July 2017.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in political science or international relations with a specialization on Japan, as well as broader research competency in contemporary regional, 
international, and transnational issues. They should be able to demonstrate strong academic, teaching and administrative abilities, and have a willingness to promote a collaborative departmental culture. Duties will include teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as supervising independent study. Candidates should also be willing to contribute to the team-taught, interdisciplinary modules offered both the Japanese Studies Department and Global Studies Program Fluency in English and Japanese is required.

The application for the 2016 Inoue Yasushi award is now open for submission. If you are based in Australia or New Zealand and have published a journal article, monograph, or a book chapter in the field of Japanese literature (widely defined) in 2015, please consider submitting an application..

Call for Papers

LOOKING BACK, LOOKING FORWARD: JAPANESE STUDIES IN AUSTRALIA

14-15 OCTOBER 2016
JAPANESE STUDIES CENTRE, CLAYTON CAMPUS, MONASH UNIVERSITY


This conference is an opportunity to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Japanese Studies at Monash University and to reflect on the past, present and future of Japanese Studies in Australia. It will bring together distinguished alumni, current academics and research students to share experiences and research findings and re-affirm Australia's commitment to fostering critical understanding of Japan and stronger ties between the two countries.

Keynote speakers will include Professor Peter Eckersall (City University of New York), Vera Mackie (Unviersity of Wollongong), Veronica Taylor (ANU), Ross Mouer (Monash University) and Yoshio Sugimoto (La Trobe University)

The conference will be held on Friday 14 (afternoon and evening) and Saturday 15 (full day) October, 2016. Program details will be announced in July.

Submissions are welcome from Honours students, postgraduate students at any stage of their degrees and from scholars who have completed their postgraduate studies within the last two years. Please submit an abstract of no more than 250 words by Monday 15 August 2016 via the online form (click here).

Submission from current students based outside Victoria will automatically be considered for a travel subsidy of up to $400. Subsides will be awarded on a competitive basis and announced along with abstract acceptance.
