Ongar Town Council seeks public support for Neighbourhood Plan
Ongar Town Council is considering preparing a Neighbourhood Plan for Ongar which will give the community direct power to develop a shared vision for the town and shape the development and growth of the local area.
This would mean that the council would be able to:
* choose where it wants new homes, shops and offices to be built
* have a say on what the new buildings should look like
* what infrastructure should be provided
* grant planning permission for the new buildings we want to see go ahead.
Council chairman councillor Jim Browning said: "Neighbourhood planning provides the opportunity for local people to ensure that we get the right types of development for our community where the goals of the neighbourhood is in line with the planned needs and priorities of the wider local area, for example Epping Forest District.
"Neighbourhood planning provides the opportunity for residents to set out a positive vision for how they want Ongar to develop over the next ten, 15, 20 years in ways that meet local needs and that make sense for local people."
The town council is looking to work with members of the community who are interested in the planning process and invites them to play an active role in preparing the Neighbourhood Plan.
Anyone interested in joining such a group should contact the council office by August 31 to register an interest.
