Duck Digest

July 2016

We can’t imagine starting without a mention of Orlando. In thinking about the violation of a safe space and the senseless loss of loved ones and lives shattered, we have to continue to support one another. And we recognize and value what our community, including QUAC, provides for those in need of places to feel safe, loved and to be able to grow and realize their full potential in life.

QUAC at Pride!

What do you get when you add ducks to a parade?  An amazing time on the streets of Salt Lake City!  QUAC participated as entry #83 in the parade as part of the 2016 Utah Pride Celebration.  QUAC is always a crowd favorite, especially with this year's fantastic turnout. As part of the routine, 2000 bottles of QUAC branded spring water were passed out in under 5 blocks on an especially warm day!

QUAC would like to thank everyone who made this an incredibly successful Pride celebration! Special thanks to Sterling, Matt, Jake, Mike and Duncan who went above and beyond to get everything ready!

The Advocate has a great selection of photos from Utah Pride, including one of Wes and Swen stride for stride.

And check out the photo coverage in the SL Tribune including this one.

QUAC Gives Back

The 36th annual National Veterans Wheelchair Games were held in Salt Lake June 27-July 2. Over 600 athletes competed in sports including among many others basketball, rugby, a triathalon and of course swimming.

It was a great opportunity to assist with this incredible event.

Volunteers Jordan Callister, Swen Nielsen and friends.

COMING UP – LOTS!!!

IGLA 2026 - Edmonton, Canada, August 8–14

IGLA is just over the horizon in Edmonton, Canada, on August 8 to 14. IGLA always makes for a great time (and in the pool too!). If you are planning to go, now is the time to sign up. And let QUAC know so we can be sure to arrange for rooms for everyone.

Ther are just two weeks left for registration for IGLA 2016! The latest you can register is July 15th!

If you need help with costs for attending IGLA, let QUAC know – we have funds, including the new Val Mansfield Memorial Fund, to help with registration and housing costs.

From the IGLA web site: “Now, more than ever, we need to come together as a community and create a safe space for us to compete and celebrate together. Show the world we have PRIDE and nothing will stop us from loving who we love and sharing that with our aquatics brothers and sisters!”

Mayhem in Sugarhouse Park!!!

BINGO and POT LUCK DINNER IN SUGARHOUSE PARK! It's summer time and just Too Darn Hot in the church building so we're moving outside for July and August.

This month's Matrons of Mayhem Charity Bingo Madness is  July 15, 7–9 pm, and it’s a QUAC Attack! Proceeds this month will support QUAC.

Have a pot luck dinner and play bingo in our best pioneer tradition. The Matrons of Mayhem SLC will provide hotdogs, buns, condiments, paper plates, napkins and utensils.

It is rumored that to help make things more interesting, QUACers will collect party fowls in their Speedo's.

We encourage the audience to bring a pot luck supper item to place on what becomes one of the largest buffet tables in SLC. Last year the Pavilion was near capacity. You may wish to bring a picnic blanket and spread out in comfort on the lawn adjacent to the pavilion. This is a family friendly event, children are welcome and encouraged. Bring your own non-alcoholic beverages. Remember Salt Lake County Parks are alcohol free zones.

First Bingo card per person is $5 each additional card is $3.

QUAC Plus camp out - Saturday, July 16

After all that Mayhem in the Park consider relaxing the next day at the QUAC Plus annual camp out. Watch the QUAC Plus group page on Facebook for more details.
Something for everyone!
