Epping in Bloom awards

Children who have helped bring floral colour to Epping have received awards from the Epping in Bloom group.

Awards have been presented to the children who designed the floral beds - marking the Queen's 90th birthday - at Tower Road green and to the winners and runners-up of the make-an-insect competition which attracted some 345 entries.

The entries were on display at Epping's Tesco store for six weeks.

Epping in Bloom also presented community awards to Charlotte Clarke, for her red, white and blue hanging baskets, and to Sonny Bazzoni for his display of wild flowers.

The awards were presented by Epping mayor Les Burrows at Epping Hall on Monday evening.

During the past year Epping in Bloom has also arranged for the planting of a floral barrel,

organised with Epping and District Royal British Legion, outside Epping Fire Station to remember the Fallen and has provided flowers for displays at St Margaret's Hospital.

The 14-strong team of volunteers has also undertaken various displays at the Market Garden site next to Marks and Spencer.

The group, with support from Epping Town Council, now plans to transform the Market Garden site into a garden area.

On Friday Epping in Bloom's work - which includes floral displays at Epping Station - will be viewed by visiting judges from the RHS Anglia in Bloom competition.

During their visit the judges will meet the children who designed the Tower Road green beds.
Epping in Bloom chairman Victoria Robertson said: "It has been an amazing year. It's been fantastic.

"We have achieved so much thanks to our volunteers and the support we have received from local businesses and the local schools.

"We are now really looking forward to moving forward with our plans, especially for the Market Garden area which will brighten up an area of the town which is seen by so many people as they walk into the High Street."
