Five young Antiguans receive scholarships from CHTAEF
The Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Foundation Education Foundation ( CHTAEF) has just announced the recipients of the 2016 scholarships and five young Antiguans are set to benefit.
This year the Education Foundation was able to attribute 28 scholarships to individuals from across the Caribbean amounting to over US$130,000.00.
Three Antiguans namely, Richelle Charles, Shemica Stevens and Latoya Wallace will be given assistance to pursue studies in Hospitality Management at Monroe College in New York whilst Kempton McCalmont will receive scholarship funding to continue his studies in Hospitality Management at the University of the West Indies and Gabrielle Thomas to continue her Culinary studies at Johnson & Wales University in the United States. The total assistance given to the Antigua recipients amounts to US$20,200.00.
Outside of corporate sponsorship the funding of these scholarships originates from a silent auction of hotel stays at the New York Times Travel Show in January each year raising around US$100,000.00 annually.
The Antigua Hotels & Tourist Association (AHTA) is extremely proud to say that 15 hotels in Antigua donated to the cause and these raised over US$18,000.00 a total bettered only by one other island in the Caribbean. We would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation all those hotels that supported the CHTAEF this year and will allow these five young people to continue their studies and pursue their dreams.
