The HDR Bulletin is a newsletter for all HDR candidates and supervisors at RMIT University.  This bulletin contains information about graduate internships, scholarship opportunities, travel grants, research awards and other opportunities available to the HDR community at RMIT.

This seminar covers why publication is good for your career, the review and acceptance process, choosing where to publish and strategies for maximising impact.

You will leave this interactive workshop with a personal plan on how you will ‘do it now, not later’.  This session provides candidates with strategies and tools to manage procrastination and deal with it effectively.

Research Awards

RMIT offers awards for researchers (including HDR candidates) for research excellence and impact.  Awards and prizes include:
  • HDR prizes and ECR awards for Research Excellence and Impact;
     
  • Awards for Excellence in Research Supervision; and
     
  • Team awards for Research Excellence.

Graduate Internship -
Science & Tech policy

The Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering (ATSE) is offering one internship for a current or recent graduate student to gain experience working in the field of science and technology (S&T) policy.

The successful intern will receive an honorarium of $7000 for the three month placement (or equivalent part time placement). It is intended that this honorarium would allow the successful applicants to defer their research for the period of the internship. The internship is planned to commence in August-October 2016.

Send: CV + supervisor letter of support + covering letter detailing their interest in the program.

Selected applicants may be asked to participate in an interview, either in person or via Skype.

Travel grants

HDR Travel Grant


The HDR Travel Grant is available to assist research candidates with travel costs associated with research-related activities that will enhance their thesis, including presenting at a conference and data collection. 

Applications for Round 3 travel are currently open and close on 15 August 2016, for travel between 1 September - 31 December 2016.

PhD Travel Grant - EMBL Symposium


The travel grant provides candidates funding of $3000 to travel to the 18th EMBL PhD Symposium:

EMBL Heidelberg
17 - 19 November 2016

Eligibility is open to currently enrolled PhD candidates who have not yet submitted a thesis.  International students are welcome to apply.

Submission and Examinations


Off-shore Graduation Ceremonies
If you plan to attend one of the graduation ceremonies in Hong Kong, Singapore or Jakarta you must have lodged your final thesis/project for archival in Equella by 31 August.
 
Citation
If you are a PhD candidate then you are obliged to supply a 50 word citation when your lodge your final thesis/project for archival in Equella.
 
For information on the required format the citation must be written in please refer the RMIT website Preparing your doctoral citation.

Cover page
When you lodge your final thesis/project for archival you must use the RMIT branded cover page. The RMIT cover page and declaration are available under the website What To Submit

Do not upload the RMIT cover page and declaration as a separate pdf to your thesis/project, instead, you must delete your previous cover page and declaration and replace them with the RMIT branded documents.
