This year, we are delighted to be joined by Sir Nick Weller, who is currently leading a review into transforming education across the Northern Powerhouse. Sir Nick will provide an update of the review process, sharing his thoughts and findings so far. He will then invite you to have your say, responding to his findings and helping to shape his final recommendations.

Reinvigorating the ‘Wasted Years’: raising standards in KS3 English
SCHOOLS NorthEast, in partnership with Ofsted, is holding a one day conference focused on raising standards in English. The aim of this event is to support English teachers and senior leaders in identifying issues and raising standards, especially for the most able and most disadvantaged pupils. The conference will be led by Sarah Hubbard HMI, Ofsted’s National Lead for English.

Schools Northeast   Ofsted's Chief Inspector Sir Michael Wilshaw published his monthly commentary for July, which introduces the 'Unknown children - destined for disadvantage?' report. The paper looks at how local authorities, schools and registered early years providers were tackling the issue of disadvantage and lower standards for those children in the most deprived communities. Hartlepool is in joint second place nationally, having successfully achieved to narrow the gap in attainment between disadvantaged pupils and their better-off peers.  Read more >
