Pure religion is this: To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction...  James 1.27

Siblings United

Michell and her half-brother, Fernando, did not know each other very well prior to their arrival at Agua Viva. They lived in separate homes, but now tease and pick on each other in true sibling fashion.

Both children love feeling safe at Agua Viva, not having to be afraid of any of the employees here. Fernando loves playing with the boys in his home and has grown close to his new friend, Luis. His new favorite hobby is playing with Hot Wheels. Michell has many new friends and enjoys activities they can do together.

Please pray for Michell and Fernando, that they might grow closer together and that they would come to personally know Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

Caring for our Environment

Our first graders have been studying the effects of deforestation on their country and learning about how to care for our environment. They wanted to make a difference and help fight the problem so they got together to help plant some trees.

It was a lot of hard work to dig the big holes, and the energetic children spent hours digging to finish their project. They celebrated with a fun outdoor picnic lunch. Way to go guys...we are so proud of you!

Welcome Back

Amanda and Jonathan came to us last summer and were very happy here. A few months later, the courts placed the children with their grandparents, but after a short stay there, they are back at Agua Viva. They readjusted quickly to life at Agua Viva, and we pray that the Lord might heal their hearts and draw them to Him.

Vacation Bible School

Our friends from Kirby Woods Baptist Church hosted their annual Vacation Bible School (VBS) for the elementary students at our school. Although June is not summer vacation time in Guatemala, school staff set aside time for this important activity.

The team packed each day with songs, skits, crafts, games and Bible lessons on Jesus as Provider, Healer and Savior, plus a special prayer time at the end. Many children invited us to pray with them about their lives and families and it was a beautiful way to end each day with a practical application of the love of Christ.

High School Scholarship Program

The Guatemala Children’s Mission provides monthly financial aid to Agua Viva middle school graduates who want to continue their studies into high school, but lack the financial resources to do so. Students in the program must keep their grades up, attend regular Bible studies, and participate in periodic community service projects. The program has been a huge success and we now have over 30 students participating.

Liswin and Franklin are two young men receiving scholarships. While attending middle school at Agua Viva, they worked very hard to get good grades. Although they were good students, they never won any academic awards. That all changed when they moved into high school. With the educational training they received at Agua Viva, they are now excelling in their studies and are at the top of their high school class.

The boys chose a high school specializing in computer programing. They also do a lot of extra self-study and volunteer at a local public elementary school to repair the computers and even help teach some of the classes. The boys saved their money for years, and recently pooled resources to buy an old desktop computer.

We look forward to seeing what the future holds for Liswin and Franklin, and we pray that the Lord blesses all their hard work.
