Dorchester Invites You to attend their Going Places Event
Whether you're "Going Places" by way of mountain biking, walking, running, or just going to the breakfast table there is an activity for you at the Dorchester Grange "Going Places" event. Saturday July 16th registration begins at 7:30. Choose either a 5K stroll or a 10, 15, or 20 mile loop starting on the back roads and continuing through Green Woodlands amazing trails. Finish your morning with a $5.00 pancake breakfast served 9-noon and check out the antique cars. This is a free event but donations are always welcome and will help graduating Dorchester students to go on to continuing education. For more information Dorchestergoingplaces.org
Canaan Fire Department is now collecting donations of goods for their annual Old Home Days Auction. Donations may be dropped off on Tuesdays or Thursday from 6-8pm until August 4.

Chief Sam Frank completed his 20th year with the Canaan Police Department on July 11, 2016. Sam had done a great job in maintaining a highly professional Department in the face of increasing investigations, arrests and trials for crimes with victims.
Thanks Sam for joining us in 1995 and being here as you start your 21st year.
Selectmen will meet at the Canaan Meeting House on August 2 and August 16 at 6 PM. THERE IS NO SELECTMEN'S MEETING ON JULY 19.
BRIEFS AND RUMORS
The fourth of July was a great success! More than 260 cars parked at the fairgrounds to enjoy the show. The new public area was opened for use. More than $500 was raised from donations to keep the heat and lights on at Canaan Hall next year.
The open viewing area at the track isn't open yet as safety fencing still needs to be installed as a buffer 20 feet from the edge of the track.
Recent mailings to all water users in Canaan Village let everyone know that there was one home tested that had lead present in an amount that can be a concern. The was only one house of all houses tested in 2016 and none were found in 2015.
Canaan's Methodist Church has a new minister. Paul Guest, recently of Hillsboro, New Hampshire has taken up the ministry in Canaan.
Canaan's Senior Center is getting a new furnace through the cooperative efforts of a CDFA grant obtained by Grafton County Senior Citizens Council for the furnace and a matching effort for an underground propane storage tank provided by the Town of Canaan.
Al Posnanski donated new planking for the benches at the Canaan Street Lake beach. Thanks Al.
Watch for the re-naming of Depot Park between the end of Depot Street, crossing the rail trail and continuing to the river.
MEETING HOUSE
The Meeting house preservation committee is selling beautiful, framed, professional prints by Bellows,
a wonderful book of engravings and pictures from the history of Broad Street by Canaan Lake,
tee shirts,
tickets to social events at the Rand House on Old Home Days and raffle tickets. Items will be available at the last two Thursday night readings, at Old Home Days, at the Town wide yard sale and other venues to be announced.
