With school being out for the summer please take a couple minutes to talk to your children about bike safety. Anyone under the age of 18 has to wear a helmet. Your kids might think they are not cool but they are there to keep them safe. It's better being safe then not have your kids around. Also when crossing the streets, remind them to look both ways and not assume cars see them. I have seen too many close calls with kids in cross walks.
I just wanted to touch on some house hold tips for the community!
-Please take care of your lawns. The little strip in front or along the house on the boulevards is also your responsibility. We all want our community to look awesome!
-Garbage. Please go and get a garbage can. Birds love garbage bags and will get into them even if they don't smell and they spread it every where. It is a safety hazard and it also looks gross. In my back alley alone there is at least half of the house that don't have garbage cans and every week it's scattered everywhere.
-We didn't do a community clean up this year. With that being said please if you see garbage blowing by please Pick it up! Be proud of where you live!!!
Remember you can always call 311 if there are repeat offenders or any concerns with the community.
Instead of a movie night we are doing Popsicles in the Park. It is the same night as movie night would have been but now at one the parks in our community. Hope to see everyone at the next event at Charlesworth Park July 16th from 230-430 or until they are gone! Movie night will resume in September!

WANTED: Communications Director
Are you a tech savvy person that loves the community you live in?!?! The Ellerslie Community League is looking for a Communications Director volunteer! The board meets on the second Thursday from 6:30-8:30pm of every month at Grace Point Church in the Library.
This position involves running our social media accounts, creating our monthly newsletter, updating our website as needed, and changing the message on our sign in Ellerslie Crossing. Bonus points if you are able to create graphics for our events! This might seem like a lot of responsibility, but you have the whole board to help you out!

Get your Ellerslie Community League memberships!
Any community members interested in purchasing their Community League membership can contact Christine Lim to arrange a meeting time! Memberships are also available online. Family memberships are only $25 for the year and the money raised from the sales of memberships helps us to provide programs and events for all our community members.
All community league memberships are valid from September 1 to August 31

Edmonton Talent Show
Edmonton is known to be a city that fosters talented people with
multicultural events. By creating an event that generates discovery and
encouragement of local talent we hope to bring new heights to Edmonton's
art and cultural history. The energy that this unique event creates will
promote cultural exchanges and it will bring our community closer
together.
Join us summer of 2016 to celebrate our local talents in Edmonton and
Areas. This summer-long talent contest launches in June 2016 with the
semi-final and final contests held in September 10th and 17th, 2016.
Human connection is a powerful tool. This is an opportunity to maintain
rapport with the Edmonton community by forming a stronger emotional bond
between local cultural communities through the utilization of performing
arts and support the needs of education for children with special needs.
The Edmonton Multicultural Talent Show will go above and beyond a
regular community event, bringing community engagement to the next level
and providing yet another definitive platform to foster new
relationships.

City Matters
WALK YOUR BLOCK
You can now register for the Walk Your Block program and log your walks on the Edmonton Neighbourhood Watch website. Research has shown that crime is significantly reduced where community residents are visibly present and are actively involved on their streets and in their neighbourhoods. Individuals out randomly walking are more effective than scheduled citizen patrols. When individuals are aware of their neighbourhood they are better equipped to recognize and respond when something is not “right”.

Why REGISTER your participation & LOG your walks?
Edmonton Neighbourhood Watch (ENW) can track the success of community programs, provide resources to communities participating in the program & offer promotions and incentives for participants. The Edmonton Police Service can use the walking statistics to determine if crime reduction in a neighbourhood may be associated with resident’s participation in the program. (Statistics provided based on the number walks & time walked by community league – not by name of participant.) The City of Edmonton can see where community involvement is benefiting neighbourhoods. This may help communities to access or request resources for the community.
Local business may offer incentives or discounts to community members involved in the program.

What to do while you are Walking Your Block:
Become familiar with your surroundings:
- take the time to meet and greet your neighbours
- become familiar with the homes and vehicles that belong in your area
- if you observe a crime in progress it is better to be a good witness than an injured victim.
** See something suspicious, report it **
If you see a crime in progress, call 911 and do not engage. If you need to report suspicious persons or vehicles call the EPS at 780-423-4567.
