What to expect
Starting in July 2016, CACFP released monthly meal pattern updates. The email blasts featured a few new rules that you can begin implementing. Over time, you will be introduced to all the new rules. We encourage all participants to get ahead of the game by training staff members on the monthly featured rules.

Miss one of our monthly meal pattern blasts?  You can find all meal pattern blasts on the CACFP website here.

DON’T FORGET you must comply with all new meal pattern rules by October 1, 2017. The good news is you can start incorporating new rules today at a pace that you feel is right for you and your organization.

If you choose to wait until October 2017 to train staff or implement the new meal pattern rules, you are allowed to do so. But why wait? We suggest getting ahead of the game and starting now!

In each newsletter, CACFP will recognize a participating organization that exemplifies the goals of the CACFP by improving the health and well-being of children and adults in care.

This month, the Colorado CACFP recognizes the accomplishments of

Spring Forth, Inc.

The director at Creative Kidz College, Terry Smith, has worked hard to improve the health and well-being of their students through nutrition. Terry said, "With the support of nutritionists who have visited our center, we have been able to provide healthier meals and incorporate additional recipes from the CACFP Healthier Meals for Healthier Kids toolkit. Our staff is participating in Culture of Wellness training and utilizing the tools and resources provided by the program in the classroom."

Creative Kidz College encourages children to participate in the creation of meals. "By getting the children actively involved in preparing their own meals, they are more conscious of healthier eating habits," said Brian Wright, the center's co-director. "With the food program, the kids are more interested in meals now and are open to trying foods they haven't had before."

During meal time, teachers sit and eat with the children and engage in meaningful conversations about the various foods prepared. Children at Creative Kidz College also participate in I am Moving, I am Learning (IMIL). Terry said, "IMIL is an exciting way to get the children to become physically active inside and outside the classroom." The center also provides information and other activities to parents to use at home that promote physical health and nutrition.

Thank you, Spring Forth, for all you do to improve the health and well-being of children in Colorado.
FY 2017 Recertification

The annual CACFP recertification process for Fiscal Year 2017 began
in August 2016 and is now nearing completion.

A big thank you to all our CACFP participants who completed recertification.

CACFP welcomes your feedback on this annual process. We strive to make the process as painless and as efficient as possible for our participants. Have suggestions on how we can do better?  Was a CACFP staff member especially helpful to you?

Please email us your comments,
kudos and suggestions here
