Marist Mission Ranong

Listening to the poor

We've been busy listening as we plan for the next few years. We visited homes, gathered Mums and Dads, listened to teenagers and young migrant workers. When we visit and listen to the poor in their home everything changes.

It was heart breaking hearing the horrors of young men and women forced into work in factories and suffering on fishing boats.
Humbling to see the tears and hear the thanks for our education of son's and daughters.
Happy to visit homes of HIV patients growing strong and now able to support their families because of care and medication.

Listening has stirred up our passion and plans for the next 3 years.

We have been reminded to not only look outward but move outward toward the poor. The 'middle class poor' may arrive at our door but as Marist we are called to always move outward to the 'more abandoned'.

In completing our strategic plan for the next 3 years we aim to support more of our poorer migrant families, helping them to begin and continue education. Support our young children and teenagers with an encouraging experience of quality learning. Encourage our young leaders to go into the community and share the education they have been given.  Go further into the community to those who are needing to know and have support of living with HIV AIDS.

As we encounter young and old in the Burmese Migrant Community, we are constantly inspired by their hunger for a brighter future for their children.

We are glad to be serving among them. Thanks for your continued support.

Thank You from the Marist Team
