ADEC Celebrates Freedom

Seeing flags waving in front of houses. Hearing stirring renditions of America the Beautiful and The Star Spangled Banner. Smelling the smokey aftermath of a fireworks show. In each of these moments, my heart fills with pride, and I take a moment to be grateful for this great country.

Here at ADEC, we have the opportunity to celebrate freedom every day. Lives are transformed by the simple power of offering choice and a listening ear. Every time you engage with us by coming to work here, volunteering your time or generously contributing your resources, you gift that freedom of choice and possibility for each person we serve.

Enjoy this shortened holiday version of The Open Door. We'll be back in two weeks with the full ADEC scoop. As always, please let me know if you have any stories to share or something you would like to hear more about. This is your Open Door.

We want to celebrate your life events and accomplishment and stand with you during the tough times. Please e-mail Whitney Craig with any weddings, births, deaths, serious illnesses or personal successes you would like to share with fellow ADEC staff members.

Want to see the world through the eyes of artists with disabilities? Join us at Potato Creek State Park for our second installment of ADEC's Inspired: Summer Art Series from 12-2 p.m. on July 13.

Bring a picnic lunch out to enjoy music and games as three of our artists will be demonstrating their painting skills. You're invited to come and work on a collage craft. Hope to see you there!

Vocational Training Center Completes Module 2

ADEC's Vocational Training Center celebrated successfully completing Module Two - First Impressions in June. Each person received a certificate of completion as Susan Faltynski, Community Employment Program Manager, talked about his or her personal achievement and drive to succeed. So far, four people have gotten jobs in the community and several have opened Vocational Rehabilitation cases. Module Three is underway as the client workers learn about Professionalism.

June Winners

Pay It Forward continues as a way for ADEC employees to recognize their coworkers for the positive contributions they make each day. Be sure to continue to submit nominations via the employee website and check back in the next month to see who won the drawing. Each winner chooses from a selection of $25 gift cards.

Beckie Adcock | I needed a last minute report to complete a survey that Beckie figured out and provided me ASAP. I so appreciated the grace in which she agreed to help and her expertise with our reporting system. Thanks Beckie for being such a great example of a team player. - Lisa Kendall

Monica Johnson | Monica is a great staff who will go the extra mile (or 4.5 in some cases) for her clients. She took a couple of clients to Ride A Bike. One of the clients she had with her has limited mobility and is in a wheelchair. He doesn't usually get to participate in these kinds of activities. This client had the happiest expression on his face when they went by. You could really tell that he was enjoying himself. It touched me deeply to see that she had taken this specific client even with the special challenges that that task possessed. - Anne Delcid

Kayla Simmons | Kayla is the Team Leader in Middlebury. She handles many different tasks daily with the coffee shop, vocational duties, Solana duties, running goals, Power for Independence and being a great team support. The ADEC Board meeting was held on June 23rd in the afternoon. Kayla volunteered to work the coffee shop and then present the board with information. Kayla continually steps it up when needed and is a great leader for everyone. She continually keeps clients first. Thank you Kayla for everything you do daily with a smile and graciousness. - Toni Richards

Ashley Court Group Home Enjoys Fourth

We had a special Fourth of July celebration where we had the guys all assemble kebobs, grilled out, enjoyed the nice weather outside, and ended with a special red, white, and blue dessert.
- Danielle Howard, Ashley Court DSP
