Dear <<First Name>>,

Welcome to our July Newsletter

Thank you all for the amazing response to last month's Newsletter, the overwhelming support from local businesses supporting Leave was truly gratifying, and fills me with hope for the future.

Thankyou also to those people who felt that I should not have used the Chamber as a platform to support my personal views. Point Taken. It is appreciated that you made your voices heard and added to the debate.  I would say these were exceptional circumstances. We have discussed this at the Executive meeting, and on balance we feel that there was such an overwhelming Government and big business bias towards Remain, that someone needed to make the case for Leave.

This view was certainly supported by the vast majority of our members who got in touch to support our position.

So WHAT NOW? Well basically, we in the business community just need to get on with it.
It continues to be up to us, but there has been a political shake up and it may be that we can use that "Uncertainty" within political Circles to get a better result for the UK as a whole.
I have written down some thoughts aimed at building confidence, and joining up any divisions that may have occurred over Brexit.

They Include:-
Post Brexit - What are we doing about it?
The Chamber's specific action plans, that we have been planning for some time and, which take on increased relevance post Brexit. PLEASE READ THIS - IT MATTERS

Post Brexit - What Next? - Think Globally
Looking at the actions that Europe needs to take, and whilst they sort out the mess they have created, how we can take advantage of opportunities across the world. Hopefully then helping other European Countries to follow suite and build a better and more inclusive, market led, and knowledge sharing world.

Post Brexit - What Next? - Emerging Politics
Looking at how all this "Uncertainty amongst our political classes", just demonstrates how badly out of touch they have become and that they don't have a clue as to the solutions.
The Referendum has just "Hit the Reset Button", that is what democracy does. It is healthy and frankly just in time. The Key point to me is that it was well overdue, and that shows the dangers of GROUP THINK. Let's get back to conviction politics and healthy debate that engages with the electorate.

Grant Shapps - View on Brexit
Grant has supplied us with a disarmingly honest assessment of what it was like to be a Minister of the Crown under EU control. Grant asks the question "What is the point of being a Minister of the Crown, if the decisions have already been taken in Europe? Fair Question, Guess What? The Group Think Bureaucrats had no answer.  THIS IS MUST READ INSIGHT into what happens behind the doors at Number 10.

Success from Uncertainty
This is a summary of the Exec's thinking after this Tuesday's meeting. My thanks to all for their contributions.

OK so looking back on the Blog, it has been a busy June.

Caribbean Evening
Our thanks to Nyree and her team at Grace Foods and Mike La Traille and his team at Oaklands College, for this very enjoyable evening that we shared with St Albans and Watford Chambers.

Brexit Debate with the University MBA team
Our thanks to Lynne Stevens, Phil Mason and Denise Dollimore at the University of Hertfordshire for inviting us to speak at this event. Very informative. My learning piece was "If you want to engage with an Audience; be polite, calm, considered, informative, amusing and avoid too many statistics. Also 'Inquisitive Counterpunching' works well."

Cyber Crime Event
Again very enjoyable and informative event. You should read this. Simple tips to protect your business, supplied by the boys on the front line. Our Cyber Crime Police.

Heading back to earth with a bump
What are your Business Rates Spent on?
Tim Neil the new Head of Resources at Welwyn and Hatfield Council wants to build transparency with local businesses which is encouraging. See here for more information about who pays what, and how it is calculated. Good Reference Information.

This brings us nicely to Chapter 5 of my book Cash Flow and Gross Profit

I love this cartoon, it just sums up business, with a smile. If you need any cartoons writing let me know and I will put you in touch with Steve Harris who supplied this great Artwork.

Book of the Month
Monica Black's Little Book of Helpfulness
A series of excercises to help you relax at work.
I have tried this Pocket Sized Guide and the techniques work. A great present for team members.

We are doing quite a lot of thinking about "Presence" That is turning up to work to meet a team of people that are "Present" This has to do with being relaxed, able to listen, not being threatened or protective, able to contribute, and play to each other strengths whilst encouraging learning across the Group.
