2016-17 Kenan Fellows and Mentors Working Together

The summer goes by fast when you are having fun. The 2016-17 Kenan Fellows are already more than half way through their internships.

We've enjoyed getting the chance to visit with Fellows and Mentors in the field and seeing how the Fellows have immersed themselves in the work of their Mentors. We have also enjoyed hearing your personal reflections on Twitter and through the Fellows' blogs.

Here's what some of the Fellows have to say about their internships so far.

"What has been funny about this experience is being asked, 'So, why exactly are you here?' In other words, all that science stuff sounds cool, but why is a high school teacher doing it? In the end, it comes down to my desire to make science real for my students," April Bernier, who is interning with Dr. Reade Roberts at NC State.
"My goal as an educator is to leave my internship with a better understanding of the role mathematics play in health careers. I want to do as much as I can to lay a solid foundation on which my students can build upon and grow into successful mathematicians who know how to think critically," Keisha Speight, who is interning at Vidant Health.
