Staff Update
Please welcome Hannah Meeson and Angela Hersey to the Coaching team at Mic Mac AAC Rowing!
Hannah Meeson has joined the team as a summer Coaching Assistant. Hannah rows for Halifax Rowing Club, but is often found training with the Provincial Team out of Mic Mac AAC. She is an integral part of the Junior Summer Rowing programs.
Angela Hersey is a familiar face around the club to many. She started rowing as a Junior at Mic Mac in 1998, and competed for Team NS Rowing at the 2001 Canada Games. She has stayed with the sport in various provinces and capacities, and has recently taken over leadership of the Adult Novice program.
Volunteers Needed!

Row NS is hosting the 44th Annual Nova Scotia Sprint Bud Myra Memorial Regatta on July 23-24, 2016.

Regattas rely heavily on the support of volunteers. It is a great way to get a front row seat of the racing action, and to support the competitive athletes coming from across the Maritimes. No experience is necessary, and there are jobs for all ages and abilities. Volunteering at regattas is especially recommended for anyone new to competing, or considering becoming competitive.

Volunteers are needed for:
a) Finish Line Flag / Horn / Timer
b) Safety Boat Driver (must have Pleasure Craft Operators Card)
c) Safety Boat Assistant
d) Photography
e) Kitchen volunteer to support coffee / snacks / lunches for volunteers

Please contact Patrick Thompson at rowing@rowns.ca if you can spare a few hours on Saturday or Sunday to support this event.

Garbage / Cleaning / Decluttering

For the busy summer season, garbage pickups from the dumpster in the parking lot have been increased to occur weekly.

Please ensure the parking spaces adjacent to the garbage enclosure are not used between 6AM-8AM Mondays, to ensure the truck has access.

Junior Summer Camps

Our first week of Junior Summer Camp was quite exciting! 16 new Junior rowers participated. Our student Coaches did an amazing job keeping them safe and entertained while learning the basics of rowing. Week 2 just wrapped up with 9 participants.

Camps will run for the remainder of July, and for the middle 2 weeks of August, Monday-Friday, 9AM-4PM. There is still room in the remaining weeks, so keep this option in mind if you hear of someone having a "boring" summer. We would love to have them!

Support for the Junior Development Summer Camp Program is provided by Rowing Canada Aviron and Sport Nova Scotia.

Wine Tasting Equipment Fundraiser
(hosted by Mic Mac AAC Paddling):
Rescheduled to Saturday, August 13, 2016

Includes a Wine Tasting hosted by Bishops Cellar, Casino Games provided by Glow Promotions, a silent auction, and door prizes! The event will be in the Mic Mac AAC Aquatic Room. Doors open at 6:00pm, wine Tasting will be held from 7:00-9:00pm, followed by a cash bar. Casino games will begin at 8:00pm and run throughout the night!

All paddling members for this season have tickets available for sale. Or they can be purchased directly from the office at 902-464-9480 or at the door for $30!

Members of the paddling programs have supported our fundraisers in the past, and it would be great to do the same in return, all while having a fun night out with friends!

Equipment Update

The Equipment Committee has been busy... but not too busy... thanks to the efforts of our members to prevent and report damages.

The committee recently recruited the assistance of some of our Junior Summer Camp participants to help with refreshing the red-blade sculling oars. Here are some photos of them sanding off what was left of the shiny finish, and then applying the first coat of paint!
REMINDER: Always report any equipment damage to your Coach, either damage you find or have caused. We get it - accidents happen. Reporting damage promptly helps minimize the impact of the accident on our programs, and helps the club identify opportunities to reduce the frequency of accidents.
