New Website Search Feature on Learning to Give
Search Learning to Give by Academic Standards
Back by popular demand is the ability to search for lessons by standards! Select the type of standards (state, CCSS, or country) and then select your subject and grade. When you drill down on the standard you want to teach, you will be directly linked to Learning to Give lessons that teach that standard. We are grateful to the Charles J. Strosacker Foundation in Midland, Michigan, for funding this search feature.

Teacher In Residence at Learning to Give

Angelia Mahone is a master teacher in Detroit, Michigan, who is sharing her limited time and unlimited talent this summer as a Teacher In Residence for Learning to Give. Learning to Give's entire community of philanthropy education professionals (you) will benefit from her contribution to content and community.

Angelia's expertise is evident in her enthusiasm for STEM, student-centered learning, and her own generosity and commitment to life-long learning. Her fourth-grade students are empowered to question, explore, and take action through hands-on experiences and service-learning. Read about their service-learning project on Learning to Give's Facebook page. "The students took action in response to the Flint Water Crisis through the LTG lesson, Rivers for the Common Good. The students investigated water quality, sustainability, and contamination from run-off into our waterways. They researched state politicians' commitment to the environment and wrote letters to their legislators, "calling them to action for water quality."

This summer, Angelia will be reaching out to Detroit-area nonprofits and adapting lesson plans and creating a toolkit to facilitate classroom-community partnerships. The resources created each summer in the Teacher in Residence program are found here and available to all educators: Urban Philanthropy Education Resource.

TeachOne Lesson about Giving on November 29

After the post-Thanksgiving commercialism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, turn your students' attention back to the generosity of the season on GivingTuesday, a global day of giving. Learning to Give challenges schools to make giving their focus that day. Please spread the word by sharing this link, and together we'll inspire 10,000 teachers to TeachOne lesson about giving that day and Tweet about it at #teach1.

Start conversations and action that impact students' lives, not just their year! TeachOne for GivingTuesday!

Please "Like Us" on Facebook where we're sharing your stories and current teaching tools. Here you'll find a community of teachers sharing ideas and inspiring young people to give time, talent, and treasure for the common good.
Most schools have a service requirement for graduation, but only a small percentage of schools teach the tools and action of philanthropy instruction. Teaching philanthropy education increases students' interest and involvement in service, and students exhibit more charitable attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors. Learning to Give has 1,700 lesson plans to help you infuse philanthropy and service concepts into the subjects you are already teaching.
