July 2016 Newsletter

Summer in the fitness industry can feel slow, but motivating your members now will reap rewards later in the year. Find out how to encourage absentees to return, and challenge your members through the Olympics.

There's also new GGFit client news - read about how we're helping Circadian Trust with their member retention.

Critical Comms: SMS or Email?

Email is low cost, easy to implement and integrate with your front of house system, and can push out a lot of content. But open rates are low, unsubscribes higher, and there can be a tendency to include too much content for certain messages.

For your monthly newsletters, email is great. But for short, critical messages that you want all targeted members to open and read, SMS is a much better option. Targeted, triggered SMS messages to absentees, or to confirm appointments, are more effective than email. We always suggest that clubs lead on SMS for 21 day absentees because 71% of absentees return within 10 days of a text, compared with 64% of those who were sent an email.

Don't just use SMS for prospecting. A well timed SMS or text message is worth a lot more than an email. It’s a little more expensive, and systems integration can be a little trickier, but the results are worth it. Read the full article on the GGFit blog here.

New Client - Circadian Trust

We’re pleased to announce that GGFit has been engaged by Circadian Trust to help implement member retention improvements across 5 sites. Initially working on data analysis of memberships, workouts, programmes, and classes, this will proceed to setting KPIs, targets, and retention initiatives and actions, working closely with Technogym, Cascade3d, Proinsight and BigWaveMedia.

Mark Crutchley, Chief Executive at Circadian, looks forward to a developing relationship, “GGFit will help to bring focus to all of our retention efforts with reports and metrics to show what’s working, enabling us to keep more of our members more active.”

Olympic Challenges

The Rio Olympics run from Friday 5th to Sunday 21st August, and the Paralympics from Wednesday 7th to Sunday 18th September. Both are great opportunities to run challenges at your club.
You'll need to be quick if you're starting your planning now, but here are some ideas to get you up and running...
  1. Simple: Count Visits / Workouts / Classes
  2. Medium: Run, Row, Ride, Swim certain distances
  3. Complex: Complete 10 events
You can record achievements on a simple 'coffee card' that gets signed or stamped for each workout or km. Alternatively, your Leisure Management System or Exercise Management System could track members' milestones.

The Olympics and Paralympics are inclusive - it's about taking part, not winning. Ideally, you'll have a prize for everyone who competes in (or completes) the challenge. Take photos of your members on a podium to share on social media.

A successful challenge needs preparation before, and follow-up after the event. Click here for more challenge ideas from the GGFit blog
