Iceland visit
A group 37 students had the amazing opportunity of visiting Iceland with the Geography Department during the May half-term.
The party flew with Wow Air. For a few this was their first time on a plane!
The first visit was to the infamous Blue Lagoon where students experienced the natural hot springs. Many tried the silica mud masks!
But the trip wasn't all about relaxing.
It also involved visiting many iconic geographical sites including Thingvellir National Park - where visitors see the splitting of the two tectonic plates - Gulfoss waterfall, the Geysir, the Black Glacier, the site of the Eyjafjallajökull volcanic eruption, coastal landforms, the island of Heimaey and many other wonderful sites.
Students could walk behind the Seljalandfoss waterfall.
While visiting the island of Heimaey the students walked to the top of Eldfell volcano. The group also went to Heimaey's outside pool where the waterslide that came out onto a trampoline was another highlight.
Trip organiser Robyn Turtle said: "This was a trip of a lifetime and I hope all students will have very fond memories of Iceland and from making new friends whilst on the trip.
"All students were excellent West Hatch ambassadors and their excellent behaviour was commented on by the public.
"Thank you to them and to Mr Fevrier, Miss Backham and Miss Scott for all their help on the trip and also to the students for making this a very memorable trip to one of the best countries in the world."
A trip to Italy is planned for May 2017.
