Summer Concert & Our 5th Anniversary!

THIS SATURDAY!

This weekend, we are delighted to present activist-songwriter John Flynn! He writes songs on behalf of “the lost and the lonely, the shackled and scarred.” A “quintessential folk singer,” Flynn has been compared to Woody Guthrie, Phil Ochs, and Kris Kristofferson. He will perform a set for kids, and a set for adults!

JOHN FLYNN & 5th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION!

Bring a blanket or chair, and relax on the lawn by the historical stage to enjoy a late afternoon concert! After the concert, head into Media for dinner and shopping, just 2 blocks away on State Street. As with all of our events, this concert is free and open to the public.

We are grateful to Concert Sponsors Seven Stones Café, Media Recreation Board, and Media Rotary Foundation for making this free concert possible.*

At the concert, we'll also celebrate our anniversary...

TODAY IS OUR 5th ANNIVERSARY!

Friends of Glen Providence Park first met on July 14, 2011 at Seven Stones Café in Media. We organized in response to the threat to the north end of the park by the reconstruction of Broomall’s Dam, and we continue to advocate to minimize damage to the park’s wetlands, wildlife and plants. Our activities quickly expanded to nature walks, citizen science, plantings, and more, and we’ve tallied some of our accomplishments from the past 5 years for our website...

Did you know we've removed over 250 (large!) bags of invasive plants from along the trails; documented over 200 species of plants and wildlife; and shared over 900 photographs of wildlife, plant, scenery, historical, and events on Facebook? You can read Friends of Glen Providence Park by the numbers and see our Annual Reports, including our latest 2014-2015 Biennial Report (packed with photos!) on our website.

Thank you to Delaware County Parks & Recreation and to all who have followed us through our website, facebook, and newsletter; attended our events; joined our committees; attended Borough meetings; lent their expertise; volunteered; led our nature walks; and even donated to support our efforts.

We are happy to see so much community support for Glen Providence Park!

IN OTHER NEWS...
  • We are looking forward to Shakespeare in the Park - Hedgerow Theatre will perform A Midsummer Night's Dream on August 6!
  • See fun photos and a recap of this summer's first concert in June with the fabulous Frog Holler.
  • We recently visited Delaware County Council to share our Biennial Report and announce our Concert Series. We are grateful to the County for maintaining Glen Providence and its growing list of County Parks - the newest being Little Flower Manor in Darby!
  • Pokémon GO is in the park! The new augmented-reality adventure game has 4 "Pokéstops" in the park - you are likely to meet people in the park who are playing it.
  • Still in the Lost & Found: We found a wooden toy in the park after the Frog Holler concert - we're still looking for its owner. Please email us if it's yours, or if you know the owner.
  • *Our generous concert sponsors have covered most of the concert costs. We are an all-volunteer organization - please consider a donation of any amount to help cover the remaining costs. You can donate via PayPal or credit card on our website.

The next few upcoming events are listed below, and you can keep up with us on our website and Facebook.

Enjoy summer in the park!
