Why Did the Crocodile Cross the Road?

The other day the kids were telling jokes on their way to school and David (5 years old) started in, "Why did the crocodile cross the road?" ...  "Because the chicken was on furlough!"  Now this was a funny joke to us, but maybe many of you are wondering, "What does furlough mean again?"  Basically, a furlough is a time away from our overseas assignment to reconnect with our ministry partners. Many people have asked us about what we are doing with all our "free" time.  Actually, we are very busy with a wide variety of tasks and have listed some below.
- Share with churches, small groups and individuals who want to hear a report from us and refresh the relationships and partnerships.
- Seek out new people and churches to partner with our Wycliffe ministry with prayers, funds, and encouragement
- Courtney is still working on National Training items such as arranging visas and coordinating training sessions. He is also looking into other options and systems that could be used for national training when we return.
- We are involved in helping new Wycliffe members that are coming to Indonesia for the first time.
- Scheduling and attending doctor, dentist, and eye appointments for the entire family while we have more access to medical care in the states. This helps us prepare for the next years ahead in Papua, Indonesia. We also update all our immunizations and arrange for a year's worth or more of prescription medications.
- Writing newsletters, blogs, and prayer request update emails (a brief update can take hours to refine)
- Enjoy family time and show our kids some fun things about America as well as our favorite childhood places. This month we took our kids on a hike to Silver Creek Falls and next month we plan to see a pumpkin patch and ride our friend's horse.
- The children attend school and Beth runs the household
- We shop yard sales and thrift stores to pack for the next term in Indonesia (however many years that may be)
- Courtney has had the opportunity to offer flight instruction to three young men. He will also provide instruction for a friend and fellow missionary who is working to obtain his flight instructor's license. He is also receiving some specialized flight training courses while in the states.

Praise God for New Partners

We were so blessed to have some newly committed financial partners! Our Wycliffe ministry budget shortfall is now around $850 a month. Wycliffe will release us to return to Sentani when this shortfall is 100% covered. We have also have some more invitations to share about our ministry. Please continue to pray for God to provide and open new opportunities for us to share in small groups and churches.

Rio got his Medical!

Last year we asked you to pray for that Rio could obtain his medical clearance to fly as a Yajasi pilot. Praise God he recently was passed! He has some slight upper frequency hearing loss and as a result, he wasn't given the Indonesian flight medical clearance. Even after trying for several months last year we ran out of time before Rio had to depart for the US for the last part of his training.
After returning to Indonesia last month, Rio re-applied and was just granted his medical with no restrictions! Now he will be able to proceed with the flights required to transfer his US pilot's license to an Indonesian license.  Please be praying for Rio as he now needs to arrange several weeks of flight training in Java for his Indonesian license conversion. Pray for Rio and his new bride Indah (pictured below) as they face many steps ahead to complete the process.

Outdoor Education!

Our kids have transitioned well into school. They go to classes weekly Tuesdays through Fridays. We are usually busy meeting with people on the weekends, so Mondays have become our family day. We recently made it up to Silver Creek Falls and hiked 5 miles to see 8 waterfalls! There are so many great places in Oregon that we want our kids to experience.
