Happy Eid al Adha!

ECCS-BC wishes its Muslim Members and Friends a Happy and Blessed Eid al Adha. Eid al Adha is an Islamic feast celebrated at the end of H
ajj. The Eid honours the trial and triumphs of the Prophet Abraham, who was ready to sacrifice his son to obey God. Soon after Eid Prayer in the early morning, Muslims honour Abraham's willingness for sacrifice for God, by sacrificing a sheep, goat, cow or the likes,  and share it with relatives, neighbors and the needy families. On this day, Egyptian children must be dressed specially for the occasion, all in new clothes, and receive gifts in cash (Eideya) from elders. They celebrate with various festivities such as balloons, fireworks and music. Egyptian breakfast menu then is mainly meat cubes and/or stir-fried hearts, kidney and liver. For dinner, the same is accompanied by BBQ and Fattah, which is rice toasted with soup, tomato sauce and  dried bread chips.

ECCS-BC Celebrates Eid al Adha in Vancouver

ECCS-BC had hosted Eid al Adha celebration at Trout Lake Community Centre in Vancouver this year. The celebration provided the blessings of reflection, social exchange, sharing of traditional meals, and artful games for our children. Our volunteers had yet again performed extraordinarily. Bless all of your hearts and have a wonderful year and see you all at next year's Eid celebration!

Proudly Our Members

Eman Soliman

It is our great pleasure to have such a distinguished member like Eman Soliman in ECCS-BC. Eman, an Egyptian Canadian dentist based in Vancouver, has been volunteering with the Syrian American Medical Society to put a healthy smile on Syrian refugees in Turkey. Eman was the only Canadian dentist and she has inspiring stories to recite. For detailed accounts, visit the link http://wunc.org/post/two-700-patients-deah-barakats-dental-clinic-helped-turkey-syria-border#stream/0

"The girl...lost her family who were killed in Syria. She is living with some relatives. When you talk with her, she is always smiling and...trying to hide her sad feelings . She kept saying that she will become a surgeon," wrote Eman.

Nour Fathy

Nour Fathy is another source of pride amongst ECCS-BC members. Nour is a success story in athleticism. He was a star player of Vancouver Whitecaps FC Youth Program from 2004 to 2007. He later started a bright career in coaching soccer. He worked as part of the coaching staff with the Vancouver Whitecaps W-League team that led the Whitecaps to the USL W-League Championship Semifinal. He also worked with the Seattle Sounders W-League team which had successful seasons in the USL W- League.

It's important to mention that Nour is a Canada Soccer National B License certified coach. This is the second highest coaching certification in Canada; he is currently pursuing his Canada Soccer National A license in December of 2015.

He has also continuously and impressively coached other youth teams until this moment. Some of his coaching rewards and honours are NCAA West Region Champions in 2013 and BCSPL League Cup Champions in 2014.

Nour is now our volunteer coach for our new ECCS-BC Soccer Team once established soon, as planned in the coming few months. Contact us soon to join in!

PICS Self-employment Program is funded by the Government of British Columbia. The program supports participants to translate their business ideas into successful operating businesses.
