East Bay Open Streets Wraps up at Sunday Streets Berkeley on October 18th

Thanks to everybody who strolled and rolled to Lake Merritt and enjoyed a sizzling Sunday of open streets with us! Special shout out to our all-star volunteer team, our production team Heart of the Town Events, our Volunteer Coordinator Ashley Elliott, and the Lake Merritt communities and organizations that braved the heat to bring yet another joyful moment in history! We couldn't have done it without you!

Help Us Make Every Day PARK(ing) Day!

PARK(ing) Day is just an example of what we could see year round

Thanks to the eight businesses who hosted their own parklets to celebrate PARK(ing) Day 2015! We had a great time teaming up TransForm on our 14th street parklet in front of Analog (who has a parklet permit of their own approved!). A full album of PARK(ing) Day photos can be found here.

Did you know the City of Oakland approved permits for 16 permanent parklets earlier this year? We are working to help interested parties design, fund and construct permanent parklets around Oakland. We've created a handy resource guide on our website to help! Bay Area Bikes and MLK Cafe are currently fundraising for their parklets, donate for a more livable Oakland today!

Grand Avenue Road Diet at Public Works Committee Next Tuesday

Meeting starts 11:30 a.m. in the Sgt. Mark Dunakin Room (1st Floor)

The Grand Avenue Road Diet heads to Public Works Committee hearing with large community and staff support. Great work everyone helping with public outreach! The project report can be found here and meeting agenda can be found here.

The City of Oakland knows the community would like to see back-in angled parking piloted on Grand Avenue, but they aren't willing to budge. Please keep the pressure on by sending an email today and asking your friends to do the same.

Grand Ave is one of Oakland’s great streets, and is should be a great street for walking and bicycling. Speak up today for A Better Grand Avenue!

Hold On To Your Handlebars!

Join us for a spooky Halloween Bike Parade and Costume Contest with Farley's on Sunday, October 25th!
(Word on the street is there will be some really great prizes for totally awesome costumes, so bring your A-game, kids...)

SUNDAY: Field Trip To Play In The Streets!

Ride along with us to San Jose for 6 Car-Free miles of fun and games right out in the heart of San Jose. The very first Viva CalleSJ is this Sunday and we can't wait to show our support!

We will also have open streets to enjoy right here in the East Bay! Highway 84 will be closed to car traffic and open to everyone else from Old Canyon Road in Fremont to Main Street in Sunol! The road closure will be from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m, more info on the Niles Canyon Stroll and Roll can be found here.

Plan Downtown Oakland: 14th St & Broadway Protected Bike Lanes

Design Workshops kick off Monday October 19th!

Oakland is finally redesigning its Downtown, and we are pushing for the protected bike lanes on 14th Street we have been waiting for, and to reimagine Broadway with protected bike lanes and great transit. Key Open House October 19 and a week full of opportunities following for you to add ideas and support our efforts to build two key cross-downtown bikeways.

Key dates and a shareable flier can be found here, send it far and wide! Can't make the charettes or design workshop? The City of Oakland has set up an online portal for comments, let them know you'd like to see world-class bikeways on Broadway and 14th Streets!
