Back-to-School Night
On Tuesday, we will have a four-hour school day followed by back-to-school night. Kindergarten through second grade parents should go to their child's classroom from 6:30-7:20; parents can visit art, music, physical education, library and world language teachers from 7:20-7:40. Third through fifth grade parents should go to their child's classroom from 7:40-8:40.

Seth Boyden's PTA has covered the cost of child care (3 years and older) with the South Mountain YMCA. If you want to sign up for this free service, email ptapresident@sethboyden.com  with your children's names and ages. When you drop them off at the cafeteria, you will need to sign them in and give your contact number for the evening.

Superintendent Town Hall
Seth Boyden is hosting an Elementary Town Hall Meeting with SOMSD Superintendent Ramos on Wednesday, Sept. 30, in the auditorium. Please plan to attend as this will be a great opportunity to hear from and speak with our new superintendent.

We will be providing light snacks for the event. Please help us provide a welcoming experience for all those who attend and sign up to contribute. You may leave your donation in the office or bring it to Seth Boyden by 7:10 PM on Wednesday. Thank you in advance.

Harvest Festival
It's almost time for our annual Harvest Festival! We need all hands on deck for this great day. If you plan to attend, please sign up for at least one work shift. (Donating chili and/or a baked good is also much appreciated.) We'll harvest seeds, decorate seed packets and take them home to plant. And the Montclair Art Truck will be back, making something inspired by Eric Carle!

Garden Update
It was a busy, productive week in the garden. Along with regular watering, weeding and tasting during recess, students  decorated a Garden Recess Resource Box and collected basil and sunflower seeds for a spring seed sale. If you have basil growing in your garden, be sure to collect the seeds and save them for next year. If you are not sure where the seeds are hiding in the plant, ask a Seth Boyden student. They know!

We had an incredibly successful garden clean-up on Saturday. Over 22 families, teachers and scouts came out to spruce up the garden beds, prune  branches, care for the grape vines, move the shed, paint signs, turn compost, organize the shed and more. Strawberry Fields has never looked better! Best of all, we had a great time together and the children got a firsthand view of a resident garter snake and a pet guinea pig. Thank you to all of the volunteers who came to help, including Scoutmaster Roger Brauchli and Troop 5. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Garden Recess will continue on Thursdays this fall. Please join us! Recess runs from 10:30-2:05. Sign in at the office, get a visitor's pass and meet us in the garden. If you would like to be a part of our Garden Team this year, sign up here.

Box Tops for Education
The Box Tops for Education class competition is underway and ends Oct. 30. Label your Box Top bags (no more than 50 unexpired Box Tops per bag) with your child's teacher's name and drop them off at the office or send them to the classroom. The three classes that collect the most box tops win prizes!

The PTA earns funds from General Mills when we turn in the Box Tops, so please participate!

Open PTA Positions
The PTA still has open positions, and we're looking at you, parents, to step up and help out! Check out the list on signupgenius.com.
