President's Note

Dear TACL Family,

Happy Autumn!  We hope you enjoyed an eventful summer.  The now cooler weather and colorful leaves (in some parts of the US) mean that fall is here, and it’s time for Mid-Autumn Festival and mooncakes.  Tweet us (@taclorg) your favorite flavor!  Mine is 蓮蓉 (lotus seed paste) with a yolk.

This quarter, we have a blog on our newly-minted Program of the Year, TACL-LYF camp; a warm welcome to TAP-Austin as the newest member of our TACL Family; and a recap of our love-filled, fun-filled Convention Weekend.  Read all about it below.

We want to hear from you, so if you have thoughts, suggestions, comments, etc., feel free to email us at tacl@tacl.org and remember to “Like” us on Facebook.

Best,

Jacqui Wu
TACL National President

2015 National Convention in NYC

During Labor Day Weekend, TAP-NY hosted the 2015 National Convention, “Our Next Chapter,” which boasted 80 attendees across our TACL Boards and a ritzy & glamorous gala with 150 guests, a soulful performance from up-and-coming Taiwanese American artist Treya and an inspirational keynote speech from John Liu, an integral contributor to the early days of TACL.  It was a memorable weekend of leadership development, identity exploration, sharing best practices and lots of Board bonding.  I’m definitely feeling some “Convention Withdrawal” right now.  Check out our recap blog here.

TACL 30th Anniversary

This fiscal year, September 2015 to August 2016, marks TACL’s 30th anniversary, and we are very excited to share our history and accomplishments with you.  We kicked off with a beautiful gala in NYC during our 2015 National Convention, and as the year moves on, we have more celebrations and commemorative postings to share with you.  This is the legacy of all those giants who came before us, this is the passion and dedication of our TACL Family, this is 30 years.  Stay tuned on our 30th Anniversary website to learn more.

For now, please enjoy our 30th Anniversary Video.

Interview with TACL-LYF Camp

TACL-LYF Camp is a 6-day 5-night summer youth leadership camp held every June in the San Francisco Bay Area for Taiwanese American youth in grades 5 through 12. TACL-LYF’s primary objectives are to deepen the campers’ understanding of their unique cultural heritage, to cultivate their leadership and communication skills, and to connect them with other Taiwanese Americans.

After another hugely successful week at camp, we caught up with a couple of their counselors to hear about why they keep going back year after year. Here’s our interview with TACL-LYF President, Vincent Chang, and former Program Director, Ryan Chen.

Check out their super fun Video Recap here.

Welcome to TAP-Austin

At the National Convention in New York, TAP-Austin was voted in by their peer TAPs and is now an official TAP Chapter.  Congratulations and welcome to our newest family member!  TACL conducted a short interview with Erica Liu, TAP-Austin’s Founding President to learn a little more about her and TAP-Austin.  Here is what we found out.
