Welcome to our October newsletter!
Are you a professional or a business that has considered volunteering?
If you have answered yes, Chester Voluntary Action can help you to contribute to your local community and make a real difference through our SkillShare initiative. Many businesses associate volunteering with rolling up their sleeves and getting stuck in. Whilst there is value in team challenges and hands on volunteering, both of which provide instant results and valuable support to charities, we also know that there are far more effective uses of your time and expertise. 
Pro bono support for our members can be hard to secure and we provide this much needed service – for free.
Our members can access the services of SkillShare for free and following a successful match with a business or professional they receive pro bono support which would often be beyond their financial reach. 
Simply put we match businesses and professionals who want to volunteer with organisations that need their skills.
There’s so many exciting initiatives aimed at making Cheshire West and Chester a better place to live and work, and I’m delighted to be able to share some of them with you in this newsletter.
BIRD, a charity that supports people with different types of brain injury, approached CVA SkillShare for help.
Keen to explore new ways to reach out to their service users and supporters , their vision was to create a series of webcasts to provide information and advice but like most small charities, lacked a large budget to finance it. CVA and SkillShare were able to match BIRD with Jonathan Davies Photography
Helen from BIRD said “Jon walked into BIRD’s life and brought his skills, experience and enthusiasm with him. It has been a fantastic experience for the charity – we have produced 10 webcasts with Jon’s support which we couldn’t possibly have achieved without him''.
Jonathan Davies said “ Spending time with staff/team members at BIRD highlighted to me the work that the charity does. I feel that I have personally benefited by carrying out this work and also got a great deal of credence from my business partners".
From all of us here at CVA and SkillShare, thank you to Jonathan Davies for offering so much support to BIRD for making a positive difference to so many lives.
