Fall greetings from Iowa Young Birders! We hope you're seeing some exciting birds this fall migration.
On our field trip to F.W. Kent Park on September 12, we said "thank you" to founder and former Executive Director Carl Bendorf and his wife Linda for getting our great organization started and for their years of service to Iowa Young Birders. Carl and Linda have moved to Colorado to be closer to family where Carl will remain as a board member for Iowa Young Birders. Many thanks again to Carl and Linda!
Young birders are who we serve, why not ask for their input on future events? On October 10, nine young birders will meet with members of our board of directors to help plan field trips for 2016 as part of our Feathers, Friends, Food, and Future event. We will begin the day with some birding, have lunch together, then move into discussion of 2016 field trip themes and locations. We're looking forward to this fun and exciting event!

Don't Miss These Upcoming Young Birder Events!
Feathers, Friends, Food, and Future on October 10 - Want to help plan our field trips for the next year? Join us for a morning of birding at Harrier Marsh near Ogden where we will look for Nelson's and Le Conte's Sparrows. After lunch, we will discuss future programs and field trips with young birders. Lunch will be provided for all young birder attendees. Details on our afternoon schedule and meeting location will be provided at a later date.
Lake Manawa with Nebraska Young Birders on October 31 - Come enjoy great birding in western Iowa while meeting young birders from a neighboring state! We will spend the morning searching for migratory waterbirds at Lake Manawa with the newly formed Nebraska Young Birders group. Lake Manawa has hosted many interesting waterbirds during fall migration. I wonder what we could find this year? This trip is free but advanced registration is required.
Red Rock Christmas Bird Count on December 19- Take advantage of this opportunity to participate in an Audubon Christmas Bird Count at Red Rock Reservoir and contribute to the longest-running citizen science project! Young birders will join experienced trip leaders as we count birds in a 15-mile radius around Red Rock Reservoir. Count for the morning or for the entire day. We would love to have you join us! This trip is free but advanced registration is required.
All of our field trips are open to young birders ages 8-18. Parents are encouraged to attend. No cost to participate (except for special events) but advance registration is required. For more details and to register, visit our Calendar page.
We presented founder and former Executive Director Carl Bendorf with an Iowa Young Birders photo book that included photos from many past field trips as well as notes of thanks from young birders, parents, and supporters for his service to Iowa Young Birders.

Young birders ages 8-18 can connect with new friends from across Iowa, get the inside scoop from our e-newsletters, and have the opportunity to contribute and participate. Youth members also receive a discount for any of our special events which may have a registration fee. An annual youth membership is only $10.What a great gift idea for your young birder!
Have up to four young birders in your family? Consider our new family membership ($40 annually). Up to two adults and four related young birders will become members of Iowa Young Birders, and all young birders will receive the same benefits as an individual youth membership!
Adults (age 19+) can support Iowa’s young birders by becoming an Adult Member ($35 annually.) Your support will help us to encourage young Iowans to develop and interest in Iowa’s birdlife and conservation issues. Plus, your Adult Membership helps keep our Youth Membership dues very low.
