In the Spotlight - Kate Jones
The name Kate Jones may be known around Medfield as the Content Specialist for the K-12 Art Program, - yet we discovered behind the scenes that Jones is a skilled metalsmith with a jewelry business that she has had for more than two decades. Visit https://www.etsy.com/shop/katejonesjewelry to find Kate Jones Jewelry. Here you will discover unique one-of-a-kind earrings, necklaces and rings, crafted of sterling and influenced by biological and mechanical forms.

Jones was educated at Parsons School of Design where she became interested in industrial/product design and learned some basic metalsmithing. She transferred to MassArt in Boston for her last two years of school and rec'd a BFA in 3D/Metals. Jones worked for the jewelry designer Michele Mercaldo for several years following graduation while starting up her own jewelry studio. She also participated in retail and wholesale shows including the American Craft Council and NY Gift Fair.

When we asked Kate what inspires her most about jewelry making Jones said...“I love the meditative space of the jewelry bench. All of my tools are close at hand and the small scale really makes me concentrate on details. The repetitive process is relaxing. I am inspired by natural, organic forms. I love to figure out how to put things together, how things are linked and how they fit with the human form. Wearables have their own set of creative problems to solve, which is fun for me.”

After opening here own jewelry studio in the mid 90’s, Kate went on to intern as an Art teacher at Needham High School, then got a graduate degree in Art Education. She has been teaching Art in Medfield for 12 years, becoming the Content Specialist just last year. Kate says she “loves teaching, and that it “satisfies the collaborative, social side to my personality.” Kate also mentioned that her own studio time is mostly making jewelry, but that she also paints and creates with mixed media.

To view more of Kate’s metal masterpieces visit any of the links below. On Etsy you will find saleable items as well as a link for custom requests and contact information. Prices for
Kate Jones Jewelry start at $34.
