A greeter welcomes attendees to the public meetings regarding the Disparity Study
|
|
Pursuant to the SWA Governing Board’s direction in February 2014, SWA will undertake a study to determine if a statistical disparity exists in the award of the SWA’s contracts to ready, willing and able market area Minority and Women Business Enterprises with regard to commodities, trade services, construction and professional services.
The objectives of the Study are to:
• Identify best practices that will help the SWA build business programs to stimulate the economic growth of local businesses
• Increase participation of minority and women owned business enterprises on SWA contracts
The Study is to take approximately six months after the Community Meetings to complete. The results will be made public to the participants directly, as well as posted online»
If you have questions on this study, email Mason Tillman or call 510-835-9012.

Mirror, Mirror in the Bin...
|
|
...This is not proper recycling!
|
|
That reflection is looking back at you wondering why a mirror is in the recycle bin. Mirrors are not recyclable due to the reflective backing and the type of glass used. Placed mirrors in the trash. Just be sure to wrap any sharp edges.

A note on the round tote: The round, 25-gallon blue bins pictured above are part of a pilot program to see if providing larger bins would enable residents to recycle more blue bin materials. If you would like one for yourself, call us at 866-NEW-BINS. Tell them you saw it in the eNewsletter and we will drop it off to you.

Did you know that you can recycle used cooking oil?
All home cooking oils - like frying oil, and bacon and hamburger drippings - can cause problems in home plumbing, sewage collection systems and septic systems. So, Recycle Right and bring your used cooking oil to the Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County:
• Allow the used cooking oil to cool.
• Carefully pour the used, cooled cooking oil into a large, sturdy plastic or wax-coated leak proof container, such as the original container or a juice carton, no larger than 5-gallons in size.
• Cap the container so it is secure.
• Don’t mix the used cooking oil with any other liquids or products.
• Bring it to 1 of 7 Solid Waste Authority Home Chemical and Recycling Centers»
