Impediments - Part 3

Continued from our previous newsletter:

(6) Hankering for carnal pleasures (Avirati)
A sensual person cannot feel inclined towards the yogic path. The intense longing that arises from living in proximity to objects of sensual pleasures and conveniently forgetting the negative consequences of these sensual pleasures, is called ’Avirati’ (’non- detachment’). It does not allow the practitioner to become introverted and if he does manage to become introverted with effort, even then his mind becomes extroverted again a short while later because of the hold of sensuality over it. To remove this ill one should try to keep one’s mind free from sensuality and to devote one’s full attention to the practice of yoga and should try to become introverted.

(7) False perception (Bhrānti darśana)
A state of mind characterized by thinking the opposite of what one’s spiritual guide and the scriptures preaon as yoga to be true, and an inclination to follow the advice of such deluded mind, jointly comprise ’Bhrānti darśana’ (false perception). For eradication of this, a firm faith in one’s spiritual guide and in the scriptures is mandatory.

In the next newsletters the last two impediments will be addressed.

With good wishes to you all,
Dr. Jayant. K. Bhadury and Acharya Hemant. K. Bhadury

BrahmāṇḍaThe constellation of asterisms and planets visible to one and the zodiac i.e. one kāla-puruṣa together with one galaxy is called brahmāṇḍa. The brahmāṇḍa has three distinct categories— physical, mental and post-apocalypse.

We will elaborate on the first two categories:
(a) Physical brahmāṇḍa: This is symbolised by the cluster of planets and asterisms. This form of brahmāṇḍa is authentically cognizable and can be seen with the help of telescopes and yogic divine vision.

(b) Mental brahmāṇḍa: According to the principle that, which exists in the universe also exists in the material body, every single particle of the universe is conceived of as containing the form of brahmāṇḍa. Not only this but the full form of brahmāṇḍa is also reflects in the beginning point of the third eye on the human forehead, at a spot nearest to the ājnāchakra, one of the six chakras and this one located in the forehead, although it exists in all the chakras, it is especially visible at the ājnāchakra during meditation. The human body has five layers of differential subtlety - annamaya (corporeal), prāṇamaya (the prāṇic body i.e. the same corporeal body but made not of flesh but to totally of prāṇa, the vital life-force), manomaya (the body made only of mana, the mind-heart complex that motivates all action and thought of the average person), vijnānamaya (the body containing all the wisdom of the human race) and ānandamaya (the body made completely of bliss and nothing else). Since mental brahmāṇḍa is cognizable and meditable and since it can only be perceived via the mana, hence it is so called. This brahmāṇḍa can be activated but only in a subtle state via stabilising the mana and by penetrating the chakras.

Trip to Kamadgiri– Chitrakoot Dham
The name of the mountain is Kamadgiri. Mad means “ego” and Ka means “who”, Giri is “mountain” in Hindi. It is believed that this place crushes the ego. It is considered an important and pure place according to Hindu legend because it is believed that this is the place where Lord Ram stayed when he was exiled, where he saved sages from demons and freed that area from fear.

Navratri

In these days (October 13-22) we celebrate the "Navratri" festival. In this festival we worship Goddess Durga.
In Sanskrit we say Durga Durgati harinim -दुर्गा दुर्गति हारिणीम which means that Goddess Durga will free us from all the negative energies.
In Sanskrit, nava means nine and ratri means nights. During these nine nights the nine forms of Devi are worshipped. Navaratri is an important major festival and is celebrated all over India and Nepal.
Today is the third day of the nine days of Navratri. on this third day goddess form named Chandraghanta is being worshiped. the color of the day is yellow. Chandraghanta is worshipped for peace, tranquility and prosperity. With her divine power she always defeats the demons…

May goddess bless us all

Shubh Navratri !
