Tap Into a New Source of Funding with SBIR; Workshop April 22

As it gets harder to find funding for your innovations, federal Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grants are more important than ever. Help increase your competitive edge at a full-day workshop at the Innovation Hub run by Jim Greenwood of Greenwood Consulting, nationally known for helping companies, entrepreneurs and inventors like you achieve success in these programs. The SBIR/STTR Proposal Preparation Workshop begins with a strong overview of the programs, including an update of important changes from their recent reauthorization by Congress. It then goes through a simple but comprehensive four-step process for developing a credible and competitive Phase 1 (up to $150,000) proposal. The day concludes with an overview of Phase 2 programs with tips for companies preparing Phase 2 (up to $1 million) proposals. When: 9 am to 5 pm Friday, April 22. Where: The Florida Innovation Hub, 747 SW Second Ave., Gainesville. Cost: $50For more information, contact Kathy Sohar via email, ksfl@ufl.edu, or phone, 352-846-1840. Register today

Unique Panel Highlights the Innovation Life Cycle at A Celebration of Innovation, UF's 10th Annual Startup Showcase

In its tenth year, the university's annual startup showcase, A Celebration of Innovation, featured a panel discussion on the Innovation Life Cycle, including the inventor of a nerve graft technology, the CEO and investor who commercialized the technology, and a patient who is now living pain-free thanks to the nerve graft. (Pictured above: Axogen CEO Karen Zaderej, patient Shirley Pincus and inventor Christine Schmidt). Fourteen UF startups also presented, and more than 100 UF inventors who had technologies licensed in 2015 received Technology Innovator awards. Dr. Janet Yamamoto was honored as Inventor of the Year. This event has attracted more than 300 investors, entrepreneurs, and other interested parties annually. Save the date for next year's showcase: April 4, 2017. Registration details to come at www.otl.ufl.edu. Read more about this year's startup showcase in the Gainesville Sun, UF News and Business in Greater Gainesville magazine.

Making A Difference: 2016 OTL Calendar Features University Technologies Changing the Way We Live, Work and Play

In this year's OTL Calendar, read more innovation life cycle stories like the one featured at the startup showcase. Each month features a different end user of technology developed at the University of Florida, people like yourself using products you might find familiar, like pet owners vaccinating their dogs against disease, children chowing down on a better variety of sweet corn, and a woman walking pain-free for the first time in years thanks to a nerve graft. Royalties from these inventions go back to the university and the labs to fund more research. The cycle of innovation continues. See a copy of the calendar here, or email Marketing Associate Meghan Meyer to request a paper copy.

Meet Your Licensing Teams

OTL Tip
Report a Discovery: Don't understimate the value of your work! While very few research discoveries generate millions of dollars, many play a key role in improving the human condition and making the world a better place. Unless researchers disclose, their work is rarely commercialized. You can submit an invention disclosure on the OTL website, www.otl.ufl.edu.
