CAASPP Update
The individual student CAASPP test scores (for last year's 3rd - 8th graders) have arrived and will be mailed home to parents early next week.
After School Homework Support
After school homework support begins next Monday for 6th-8th graders and provides a quiet place to study. A permission slip for students & parents to review and sign will go home later this week to provide contact information for any student who plans to stay after school and participate in the Homework Support Program.
This program is available Monday & Wednesday from 3:15-4pm and 1:10-1:55 on Thursdays, supervised by middle school faculty and staff. The program meets on Mondays in the 7th grade classroom, Tuesdays and Thursdays in the 6th grade classroom, and Wednesdays in the 8th grade classroom. This is a free program, we require that students sign in and quietly work on class assignments or homework. We encourage students to bring an extra snack to eat between school’s dismissal and the start of the program. In order for this program to be possible, prompt pick-up of students is essential (4pm Mon-Wed, 1:55 Thurs).
Lost and Found Overflowing!
Our SunRidge and REACH lost and found area is spilling over with items from the playground and fields. Please check for missing items and label your child’s clothing with their name.
Walk & Roll to School Day
Wednesday, October 7th, is the date for Sonoma County's Walk and Roll to School Day!  It will take place at the parking lot across from the Sebastopol Center for the Arts (282 S. High St.).  We are asking families to meet between 7:45am and 8am.  Chief Weaver will do a safety talk and Mayor Patrick Slayter and Vice Mayor Sarah Glade-Gurney will be there as well as Brook Haven, Park Side and Sebastopol Independent Charter families and staff.  After Chief Weaver does his safety talk, families and school staff can walk or ride to their respective schools.  Join our community in saving gas, getting exercise and having fun! http://www.sunridgeschool.org/events.html
Whole Foods Scrip Made Easy
Whole Foods scrip/gift cards are now available for purchase in the school office. Using scrip/gift cards when shopping at Whole Foods Market is an easy way for SunRidge to raise thousands of dollars each year for school needs (WFM donates 3% of every dollar to SunRidge). If you shop regularly at Whole Foods, we want to make this easy by providing individual reminders when Whole Foods scrip cards are available for you to pick up in the school office.  It is also possible for you to “re-load” a WF card through the scrip website on your own, and you can re-load up to $400 on your existing card at one time, so you don’t need to keep buying new cards each month or to carry around multiple cards. Want to receive personal reminders or learn more about reloading your own card?  Go to: http://www.sunridgeschool.org/whole-food-market-scrip-e-scrip-and-store-cards.html scroll down to the bottom of the page to download the form. Send or bring in the completed form. We’ll take it from there.
Parent Education Committee -- Call for Ideas and Volunteers!
The Parent Education Committee (PEC) is forming for the current school year and seeking new members, and parents who want to share ideas. PEC provides educational opportunities for SunRidge School parents and community members relating to Waldorf education, parenting and family life.
PEC provides a forum for parents to come together to explore the values underlying our shared identity by serving the parent body with informative, engaging, and participatory activities and events. The PEC fosters the weaving of a vibrant SunRidge community by building a supportive parent body that is aware of the developmental philosophy and academic program of our school. The Parent Education Committee offers a variety of programs throughout the school year, with special events in November and March.  Offerings have included presentations, panel discussions, newsletter articles, film and book study pairings, and guest speakers.
To share ideas or express interest in the work of the committee, please contact PEC member Adrienne Bramhall at adrienne_bramhall@yahoo.com or 805-587-1275.  Or, come check it out at our first meeting, Friday Oct. 2nd at 8:30am in the Town Campus faculty lounge.  Thank you!
Country Campus "Envisioning The Future" Meeting Set for October 24
The Charter Council invites your participation in envisioning the future of the country campus on Saturday, October 24, from 9:30 a.m-12 noon. To achieve this goal, we have asked Miriam Volat, from the Occidental Arts and Ecology Center, to facilitate the meeting's purpose of gathering community input and collectively imagining what our beloved country campus might be home to next.  Future bulletins will contain more information, please mark your calendars and plan to come!
Storage on Campus
The Sebastopol Union School District (SUSD), which owns the ‘Town Campus’ facility, will be storing 2 large containers on the town campus, most likely in the small fenced parking area towards the back of the school. These containers house materials for the SUSD’s annual fundraiser “Much Ado about Sebastopol”, occurring this weekend. The containers are scheduled to arrive after school next Tuesday.
We’re Giving Away Pianos!
Would you like a Piano? SunRidge has 2 pianos that need new homes. Both pianos are in fair to good condition and free. If interested, contact Kalen at: kwood@twinhillsusd.org
The SunRidge Library needs you!
Christina Bush, Dianne Namkung, Kalen Wood, and Michael Powell (librarian from the Sonoma County Office of Education) discussed the tasks necessary for our school library. We are interested in forming short-term teams to cull the collection, barcode the books, and shelve the collection.
If you’d like to be part of a small team with a specific task, please contact Erin at egreen@twinhilllsusd.org with your name, contact info, and the best times for you to volunteer. Thank you!
Parent Handwork Group meets on Tuesdays Now!
The Parent Handwork Group’s goal is to sell our creations at the Falling Leaves Festival. We are working on a variety of projects: knitting, wet felting, needle felting, crocheting, and anything else of interest to participating parents. So come join, learn a craft, have some tea and meet other parents every week to create.
When: Every Tuesday, 8:30-10:30am in the SunRidge Handwork Room
Current Project: Needle-felting Mother Earth, Autumn Fairies, Toadstools, Pumpkins.
Any skill level welcome; the more the merrier.
Adults only please (babies in arms always welcome)
Crafting is not required, but highly encouraged and learning in a group setting could be a great way to get started.
If you have extra supplies, we welcome donations of wool yarn and wool roving.  Unfortunately, we'll have to put off the family crafting afternoons that we had planned. We might try again in the future...

We are looking for a responsible, kind teenage male mentor/tutor for our almost 11 year old son. Ideally this person would be available one afternoon a week for a couple of hours to hang out with our son: play basket ball, help out with homework, math, organizational skills, talk about sports, and overall be a kind, caring, responsible role modal for our son as he goes through this transition into becoming a “big kid.” We are willing to pay well for the right person.  If you know of an outstanding young person that might be interested in an opportunity like this, please let us knowJenMichiahRothman@gmail.com

Childcare Needed
We are looking for a creative, responsible, sensitive person to be with our daughters (ages 11 and 8) on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday afternoons. Responsibilities include picking the girls up from school, playing with them, taking the occasional trip to the library or park, helping with homework, and very minor dinner prep. The approx. hours are 2 PM-5 PM (Thursdays will sometimes be 1-5) with periodic increased hours on random school holidays or late work nights. Previous experience with references, a reliable (safe) car with a clean DMV record, and an excellent reading voice are musts. We are located in downtown Sebastopol. $15 an hour. Starting August 17th.
