Wolf Protections in Peril - support our work in Washington, D.C.

Dear Wolf Supporter:
As a fellow advocate for the protection, recovery, and future survival of the gray wolf, Howling For Wolves wants you to know we are not backing down.

Recently, anti-wolf interests in Washington D.C. had language (“riders”) inserted into the federal Interior Appropriations budget bill to “delist” gray wolves of the Great Lakes region by reversing the December 2014 court decision to put wolves back under federal Endangered Species Act protections. The language also prohibits judicial review of this reversal of a judge’s decision. This is wrong on so many levels.

Those same anti-wolf interests are working to pass bills that take away federal protections for wolves and other species and simultaneously weaken the federal Endangered Species Act.  Howling for Wolves is constantly monitoring these efforts and fighting to keep the wolf protected.

It is imperative that the de-listing language, along with any other harmful policy riders seeking to weaken the Endangered Species Act and wolf protections, is kept out of a Continuing Resolution or an Appropriations bill.

Right now, our goal is to keep the wolf federally protected so that reasonable plans can be developed and implemented that allow wolves to exist for future generations. We know that Minnesota’s wolves (the largest and only population that did not go extinct) is suffering after three consecutive trophy hunts. The most recent survey of the population was extremely concerning-- with a drop of 25% in numbers of families/packs--with 100 fewer families of wolves counted.

Fortunately, the reckless recreational/trophy wolf hunt cannot go forward as long as the wolf is federally protected as a threatened species. The wolf needs to stay protected and that is why Howling For Wolves is working in Washington D.C. and we all need to communicate with our federal lawmakers.

As we fight for wolves at the federal level, we need you to make us more powerful on behalf of wolves. Your non-tax deductible donation of $50 or even $100 to the Howling For Wolves Action Fund will add tremendous strength to our federal efforts in Washington D.C.   You can also help by showing your support with a lawn/window sign. It goes a long way to help  the wolf.
