CREATING LUSCIOUS LANDSCAPES WITH
WASTEWATER
WELCOME TO GREENBRIDGE'S SPRING NEWSLETTER, WHERE WE SHARE NEWS ABOUT OUR INNOVATIVE WASTEWATER SERVICE, PROGRESS ON THE POCKET NEIGHBOURHOOD, THE UPCOMING SUSTAINABLE BACKYARD TOUR, AND AN EXCITING CO-HOUSING WORKSHOP.
Here at GreenBridge, we see wastewater as an exciting resource that can help achieve lush, super-productive landscapes.

Wastewater is made up of two components: blackwater (from your flush toilet), and greywater (from your kitchen, bathroom, and laundry).

Blackwater can be safely used to support orchards and food forests with water and nutrients, all year round. Greywater can be used more widely, and is soaked in strategically to support vege gardens and berries, as well as fruit trees.

Utilising your wastewater smartly means your gardens, orchards, & food forests will be much more productive, with much less watering!

We are familiar with a range of simple, passive wastewater products that don't need pumps, blowers, or electronics. And if you have a tricky site that means your wastewater needs secondary treatment, we can find you a solution that won't cost the earth.

We offer a full wastewater service for rural sites and lifestyle blocks:
  • Matching you and your site to the right wastewater system.
  • Designing the wastewater system size & layout, & obtaining a building consent for you.
  • Through our partner businesses, installing the system to your satisfaction.

So if you are building a home, or want to overhaul your existing wastewater system, contact Kama for a free 1 hour, no-obligation consultation.

PROJECT PROFILE: HAZEL & DEREK'S
INTEGRATED GREYWATER & GARDEN DESIGN

We provided Hazel & Derek with some wastewater options to suit them and their site. They chose to separate their blackwater and greywater, so the greywater could be soaked into woodchip-filled basins near the house, to support food production and reduce watering.

Kama (our wastewater engineer) and Bena (one of our productive garden designers) worked together to create the integrated greywater and garden design. Greywater from the various sources in the house is not combined into a single pipe system as is usually done. Instead, greywater from different parts of the house are individually sent out to woodchip-filled basins in the nearest gardens.

Greywater from the en-suite goes out to support the berry patch. Greywater from the main bathroom goes out to a salad/herb/perennial garden. The kitchen and laundry greywater support a small subtropical food forest behind the house, with bananas, ginger, and taro growing in the basins themselves, while avocadoes and pawpaws will grow next to the basins.

NEW GREENBRIDGE OFFICE IN BROOKLANDS
We have set up office in Brooklands, at 29 Plympton Street, where we are enjoying the sunshine and the garden!

CO-HOUSING PUBLIC TALK & WORKSHOP
Have you ever wondered how it would be to live in a safe multigenerational neighbourhood where you are valued and feel you belong? To have privacy and autonomy AND really know your neighbours? To live lightly on the earth, and not have to own and do everything yourself?

Cohousing is a form of collaborative housing in which residents actively participate in the design and operation of their own neighbourhoods.

We are very pleased that Robin Allison from Earthsong Eco-Neighbourhood is coming to Taranaki to inspire people about co-housing, and empower those who are considering creating cohousing here in Taranaki.

POCKET NEIGHBOURHOOD PROGRESS

Enhanced community living is about to arrive in New Plymouth! The first three homes of the six-house pocket neighbourhood in Whalers Gate are nearing completion. Driveways and gardens are due to go in over the next few weeks, meaning that these homes will soon be going on the market.....This is an exciting project that we have been working on with Pepper Construction.

This revolutionary development in subdivision design will be a first for Taranaki, with the following features:
  • A central, shared community space with over 50% edible plantings.
  • A range of small footprint house sizes from 2 to 4 bedrooms.
  • Grid-connected solar power & rainwater collection.
