October First Fridays Artswalk
Friday, October 2nd, 5 to 8 pm

Enjoy seventeen different art shows featuring work by over 20 accomplished regional artists in Pittsfield’s bustling Upstreet Cultural District during the First Fridays Artswalk and all month long!


In most venues, artists will be present from 5 to 8 pm on Friday, October 2nd!

Join us for a free guided tour beginning at 5pm on October 2nd at the Intermodal Center @ BRTA, 1 Columbus Ave!

The fun doesn't stop at 8! Join us for the Afterwalk Dance Party from 8-10 pm at the Whitney Center for the Arts, 42 Wendell Avenue. Free and open to the public!

NUarts gallery + studios​ to have open studios during the October First Fridays Artswalk​!

Just up the stairs at 311 North Street, there is a group of 18 artists creating and exhibiting works in a variety of media including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, jewelry, music and more. Twelve artists will open their studios to the public during First Fridays Artswalk on October 2nd, 5 to 8 pm. Be sure to stop by!



 
Lichtenstein Center for the Arts
28 Renne Avenue, Pittsfield, MA.


The Lichtenstein Center for the Arts will present photos by Clemens Kalischer of Stockbridge MA. "South" is an exhibition of photographs taken while traveling through the southern states of America in the 1940's and 1950's. Clemens Kalischer, a freelance photographer, has exhibited and been published worldwide. His work was also included in "The Family of Man", a collaboration of Carl Sandburg and Edward Steichen. There will be an opening reception during Artswalk on October 2nd from 5 to 8 pm. The show will be on display through October 31st.

Shire City Sanctuary
40 Melville Street, Pittsfield, MA

 
Shire City Sanctuary will feature artist Carri Skoczek in October. The show is entitled “MISTRESSES OF MAYHEM and A FEW GOOD MEN”.

Shire City Sanctuary will host an opening reception during Artswalk from 5 to 8 pm with refreshments and a meet and greet with the artist.

At 7 pm, they will be continuing their partnership with Bazaar Productions for Fringe Music, the free monthly music series.

October performers are The Hands Free, an acoustic quartet comprised of James Moore, Nathan Koci, Eleonore Oppenheim, and Caroline Shaw. Their music draws from a twisted array of folk, jazz, and classical traditions to create lush sonic textures, intricate compositions, and wild improvisations.

DEIDRE’S Special Day
2 South Street. Pittsfield, MA

Ellen Joffe-Halpern will be showing “Fall Colors” at Deidre’s from September 29th to October 31st. There will be a reception during Artswalk on October 2nd from 5 to 8 pm.

The unifying theme of Ellen Joffe-Halpern’s exhibit is color, more precisely fall colors. The artist’s palette, the use of warm oranges, reds, yellows, browns and blues, reflects the season, but is also the artist’s personal favorite.  The theme of these paintings is how these colors make the viewer feel, what memories they evoke, and what dreams they inspire.

Whitney Center for the Arts
42 Wendell Avenue, Pittsfield, MA.


The Whitney Center for the Arts will be featuring "Soft Shoe Boom" in October, a group show of original work in all media inspired by the Tap Shoe. The show will conclude with an "UnSilent Auction" of all the exhibited artwork to benefit the work that 'They Dance For Rain' does in Nairobi, Kenya.

There will be a reception during Artswalk from 5 to 8 pm. Stick around for the Afterwalk Dance party starting at 8 pm!

Unusual Wedding Rings & More
Crawford Square, 137 North Street, Pittsfield, MA

Unusual Wedding Rings will show the Miniature Art of Desiré Lane for the month of October. An opening reception with the artist will be held from 5 to 8 pm during Artswalk.

The show is entitled "Darkhorse Lane: Miniature Obsessions". Desiré will be donating 10% of her sales from the evening to Shriners Childrens Hospital.

Bagels Too

For October 2015, The Art Gallery at Bagels Too​ will host a solo show of new works by Stephen Lussier.

Stephen's work is all from the heart with a wry, conceptual, humorous edge. He has a good eye for which objects enhance each other and show up strongly, simply, subtly, surprisingly. Each bringing its own beauty.

There will be an opening reception with the artist during Artswalk​ on Friday, October 2nd.

Steven Valenti’s Clothing for Men
157 North Street, Pittsfield, MA.

Ilene Spiewak will be showing a series of paintings at Steven Valenti's. There will be a reception during Artswalk​ on October 2nd from 5 to 8 pm!

“My work as a painter involves making images from a near non-representational position, moving toward abstraction. While working on 2 or 3 canvases at a time, I consider what is in front of me as well as what I invent. My body of work has a sense of excitement and energy achieved through layers of color that build on one another. I draw basic compositional elements to make forms and shapes on the canvas which may be painted out or enhanced with bold lines and washes of strong color combinations.” ~Ilene

Berkshire Paint and Sip

Berkshire Paint and Sip’s October show is "If the Shoe Fits" featuring acrylic and oil on canvas by Contemporary Realism artist Michelle Iglesias.

Michelle will be present during Arstwalk on October 2nd from 5 to 8 pm and will be instructing a painting lesson open to the public. Guests can learn how to paint “Rooster” on a large 16x20 canvas for $30, all materials provided.  Lesson starts at 6pm.  Walk-ins are welcome, but seats are limited.  You may pre-register and reserve your seat at

Dotties Coffee Lounge

Create your own art at Dottie's Coffee Lounge on Friday, October 2nd during First Fridays Artswalk!

Their Burlesque model will provide you with inspiration, shape, texture and evocative work. Bring your own art supplies and Dottie’s will provide some table top easels, crayons and newsprint. Dottie's will offer dinner and snacks. BYOB. Donations for the model are graciously accepted. Fine food 5-6 pm - Drawing 6-8 pm.       

The Blue Ribbon Project, works by Mike Carty & Patrick Swan for view and sale, will be on display in the Music Room.

The BerkshireNow gallery space at the Berkshire Museum features a show of incredible ceramics by Michael Boroniec through November 22, 2015. Admission to the BerkshireNow gallery will be free to the public, from 5 to 8 p.m., on October 2nd and November 6th during First Fridays Artswalk.

The Kinderhook Group Real Estate
Crawford Square, 137 North Street, Pittsfield, MA.


The Kinderhook Group will feature artist Cecilia Stevens for the month of October. Cecilia paints and draws on paper, canvas, and slate in different mediums, including graphite, charcoal, colored pencil, oil, acrylics and water color. Using her digital camera to capture landscapes, seascapes, sunsets, horses, birds, flowers and butterflies, she is able to create her own unique compositions.

Downtown Pittsfield, Inc. will feature works by Mark V. Mellinger, PhD for the month of October. In the '60s, Mark went to Cooper Union Art School for painting, graphics and sculpture.  He later returned to college and went on to careers in biology and psychology.  While continuing his practice of psychoanalysis in New York, he looks forward, once again, to getting to his Pittsfield studio and being part of the exciting Berkshire art scene.
