Student recognised for being an “amazing young team player”

A West Hatch High School student has received a Jack Petchey Award after being nominated by the east London-based charity WORLDwrite.

Year 11 student Tayyab Hussain was presented with his award at a ceremony at Hackney Town Hall.

Tayyab was involved with the camera work and filming of the charity’s QuestionDine 2015 election debate when local young people were able to discuss the major political issues on camera.

His achievement award is in recognition of his contribution to the event which saw him set up the filming equipment, rehearsing and following camera directions and then creatively framing and capturing the discussions.

“His nomination stated: “Tayyab had taken part in our charity’s film training and was keen to put his learning into effect, which he did in style.

“Tayyab has demonstrated an immense passion for programme-making. He worked really well with older volunteers too, un-phased by the age gap.

“Everyone agreed he is an amazing young team player and much deserving of this award.”

Tayyab, who lives in Chigwell, said: “As well as being proud and my family being proud it's important to have national recognition so when I go for jobs, on my CV and go on for Sixth Form I will have an award to show them."

WORLDwrite has a remit to provide educational projects and programmes which promote international understanding.
