Be Proactive, Not Reactive

Fall is my favorite season of the year as the weather changes and the holidays begin.  Parties, guests, and decorating can be exciting or stressful and the outcome is all up to you.  Let's get organized now so that it's easy to switch out decor for each holiday or do a quick cleanup right before guests arrive  - no stashing stuff in the closet for you!

Read my fast seasonal tips below, watch my videos for a visual demo in my own home, and read my blogs to find solutions to all your organizing issues.

Seasonal Organizing

Halloween is behind us, but the good times roll on.  I'm talking about all of the other upcoming holidays and it's enough to make your head spin sometimes.  So I'm here to give you some tips on how to do small things now that make a big impact this time of year.

  • Switch out the color of your pillowcases each season for a pop of seasonal color in an unexpected place (bathroom hand towels work as well).
  • Slow cookers and holiday meal plans are your friends during the fall/winter months.  Check out this Pinterest board Holidays Handled for some great recipes that save you lots of time.
  • Clean out your fridge seasonally to ensure everything in your freezer and all condiments are still good.  Have a few emergency appetizers and meals ready for guests in the freezer at all times.
  • Have already wrapped gifts (their contents labeled with a post-it note) good to go for any time you need them.
  • Switch out candles and scents for a quick atmosphere overhaul.
  • Schedule the rest of your fall events on your calendar now as the weekends fill up fast.  Check out the Austin Moms Blog Facebook Page: Fall Events In The Austin Area or the OJoy Holiday Bucket List Pinterest Board for some great ideas.
  • Have a closet or bookcase in your guest room ready to go with guest towels, a few magazines, clean sheets, and even a guest information sheet like this one complete with your wifi password, and other important details.
  • Purchase colored storage bins for each holiday (red/green for Christmas, orange for Halloween) on sale after the holiday is over.  This makes it easier to store and locate bins up in the attic at a glance.
  • Contact your family and friends now so you can plan ahead for where you are going each holiday, what to bring, what to cook, and all of those other fun details.  Schedule everything on your calendar.
  • Take your holiday family portraits now, even though it seems too early.  You can take advantage of all of the early bird discounts for ordering cards and send yours out sooner.  Plus if you've forgotten anyone, you still have time to send them a card later on once you receive theirs.

There's no time like the present, so get to it!
