Welcome back!

Here at the CEC, we would like to welcome you back to our renewed and improved monthly newsletter! We would like to get back into correspondence with you, and share some of the great things that are happening involving the York U and Black Creek community. Our three core areas of activity consist of experiential education, community-based research, and access to education. Monthly, you will be able to find a few short articles below that relate to these core areas, as well as upcoming events that may be of interest to you.

Nurturing Student Success: FYN
The First Year Network (FYN) is a group that consists of first year students in the local Jane and Finch/Black Creek community attending York University that was created to develop a peer network among first year students. The network nurtures skills that first year students will need to succeed in university, as well as builds upon leadership skills that are developed in local high schools.

What does "Social Exclusion and Business in the Global South" have to do with 25 York Students and 8 business ownders?
On Wednesday, October 14, Dr. Caroline Shenaz Hossein, professor in the Department of Social Science, Business and Society (BUSO) program, along with the York-TD Community Engagement Centre (CEC), hosted a panel discussion on this topic at the CEC, York’s satellite campus at Jane and Finch.

Pathways to Bridging Programs, Post-secondary Education and Careers
This information session will provide newcomers and internationally-trained professionals with the opportunity to explore bridging and post-secondary programs that help advance/achieve employment goals, obtain information on employment and related resources, as well as participate in networking opportunities and an information marketplace.
