Alum Eric Meyer to Deliver Talk on Disruptive Tech: 10/15
Eric Meyer '12 will deliver a talk, "Disruptive Tech: How Backwards Policy Stifles the Sharing Economy," on Thursday, October 15 at 7:00 p.m. in Schlegel 207. A reception will follow the talk. Eric is the founder and CEO of Haystack, a controversial company legislated out of existence in major cities last year. He is a national contributor to the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, USA Today and CNN, and has been named Maryland Innovator of the Year. Seeking advice from a seasoned entrepreneur? Take advantage of the University of Rochester Ain Center for Entrepreneurship's Entrepreneurs-in-Residence (EIRs) program. John Hawkins, vice president of Paramax Corp. and president of Benchview Management Corp., will hold office hours on Tuesday, October 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Carol Simon Hall on River Campus. John has expertise in service and technology industries, strategic growth, and investment banking. Scott Catlin, associate vice president for technology ventures at UR Ventures and attorney, will hold office hours on Tuesday, October 13 from 1 to 3 p.m. in 1.213 CTSI Director’s Suite in the Saunders Research Building. UR Community: Apply to the NSF I-Corps Site Training and Grant Program
Got a technical business idea? Students at any level of study, faculty, staff, and alumni are invited to apply to Cohort II of the National Science Foundation (NSF) I-Corps Site program at the University of Rochester. The program provides entrepreneurial training (two required workshops and biweekly meetings) and modest funding ($1,000 to $3,000 grant awards) to enable teams to transition their technical idea into the marketplace. Cohort II will take place during the 2016 spring semester. The application, including an Itemized Financial Plan on how the funds will be used, are due Monday, November 16 at noon via email to Matthew Spielmann.
