Lesson 841: Generosity in 3 John, Pt.2
Gaius provided financially for the gospel.
3 John 7 they have gone out for the sake of the name, accepting nothing from the Gentiles.
These missionaries received no support from outside the church. They sacrificed the comforts of home to spread the Word of God.
The church should not have to ask unbelievers for support. Unbelievers have no interest in evangelism and missions.
Christians need to pray and carefully consider before giving large sums of money to non-Christian charities.
The generosity of God’s people is the only practical means to provide the needs of God’s program.
3 John 3 I rejoiced greatly when the brothers came and testified to your truth, as indeed you are walking in the truth.
The verb tense says that they kept coming over and over. Whenever the Apostle John ran into people from that church, they told John about the generosity of Gaius.
This caused joy in the missionaries Gaius supported, and the people they served.
About This Series
The goal of this series is to become more useful in serving the Lord Jesus Christ, as an instrument in the Redeemer's hand. The theme verses for the series are Ephesians 4:22-24, Philemon 11, 2 Timothy 2:21
- to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,
- and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
- Formerly he was useless to you, but now he is indeed useful to you and to me.
- Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.
