Cohort Development Fund - Call for Proposals - Last chance to apply
 The CHASE Training and Development Group (TDG) invites proposals from faculty and students across all CHASE institutions.
The format of activities/events is intentionally open, as the CHASE TDG would like to encourage a diverse array of proposals.
CHASE TDG is happy to consider proposals for a range of activities from single day events to multiple day, multi-site programmes. Student-led applications may include (but are not limited to) the following:
- One day conference: students invited to present research in progress papers and finishing with a notable keynote speaker talking about research methods.
- A series of training workshops focused on a specific field, practice or methodology.
- Events focused on establishing and maintaining research networks.

Wellcome Trust Open Day - Last chance to register
Thursday 22 October
The Wellcome Trust has invited CHASE funded students to attend an open day event to give insight into its work. This will include sessions on The Hub, their creative new interdisciplinary research space and it's residents. The event will also feature themes on Digital Humanities and the Wellcome Library, Public Engagement plus, afterwards, the opportunity to explore the fantastic range of exhibitions and resources in the Wellcome Collection and Wellcome Library.
The Wellcome Trust provides more than £700 million a year to support bright minds in science, the humanities and the social sciences, as well as education, public engagement and the application of research to medicine.

Alternatives to the monograph: new ways of publishing for doctoral researchers

For many researchers the allure of the traditional monograph is strong but is this still the best way to publish your work? This informal seminar will hear from three researchers who are exploring different ways of publishing their work. They will discuss Open Access journals, the new shorter format options being offered by publishers and getting together with colleagues to write and publish a book in a day.

What is the future for the academic book?

A seminar to discuss what the academic book of the future might look like and what its purpose might be.The seminar will explore the transformation of the academic book, including a panel discussion with opportunities for questions.

Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art Student Event

Paul Mellon Centre is offering CHASE students, at any stage of their study, tours of the building, an introduction to their library and archive collections and the opportunity to chat informally with PMC staff about our activities, such as the funding they have available to support research projects. It will demonstrate to student what is on offer and what the Centre does. It is hoped that students will feel very welcome to come back and use the collections and resources throughout the rest of the year. More information about a student ambassador scheme will be available on the day.

CHASE Studentship Competition
Competition Launches on the Tuesday 27 October
For the third time, CHASE DTP will be launching a studentship competition in the search for outstanding graduates to undertake doctoral research.
Our intellectual environment fosters the problem-driven and interdisciplinary research vital to addressing the new challenges of a world shaped by the speed of technological innovation and global change. Understanding and promoting the value of human culture and creativity in addressing such challenges is central to the CHASE vision of postgraduate research and professional development.
Successful applicants will have their fees paid, as well as receiving a stipend to cover living expenses and access to further funds for research expenses (where eligible).

Hensley Henson Public Lecture on the Church in Politics

This new annual public lecture will continue Henson's legacy, reflecting critically on the political relationship between Church and state and the balance of benefits and compromises it entails. The inaugural lecture will be delivered by Bishop Michael Nazir-Ali, former Bishop of Rochester, and is entitled 'Why churches and Christians should be involved in public life'.

SMA Student Colloquim

The event aims to provide a platform for postgraduates and early career professionals to present and discuss their current research. This year’s event will also incorporate keynote lectures, and the general theme of the event will centre on avenues of interdisciplinary research which benefit medieval archaeology.

Arts and Media
