Birmingham Life and Culture Series

On Wednesday, October 21, John Mason Hodges—conductor, lecturer, composer, and writer—will be speaking at Covenant. During his lecture, "The Marriage of Form and Content: Does the Way We Say Things Matter?" Professor Hodges will draw on the Bible, Jonathan Edwards, Shakespeare, and the music of Johannes Brahms to bring attention to the connections among theology, form, and content found in artistic expressions. These connections help Christians engage with the intended meaning in such works and can provide a deeper understanding of the relation of God to His creation.

Our fellowship dinner will begin at 5:30, and Dr. Hodges will speak at 6:30. Childcare will be available. This event is sponsored by Theopolis Bible Institute, Beeson School of Divinity, Cathedral Church of the Advent, Covenant Presbyterian, and Trinity Presbyterian.

Women's Ministry Events

Feast Not Famine. Our first "Feast Not Famine: A Harvest Supper" will be Wednesday, November 18. Adam Wright of Act of Congress will share his music, and we'll hear from Gordan Bals of Daymark Counseling. Gordon will address avoiding the famine of expectations, and the sometimes "crazy" holiday family dynamics, while keeping your focus on the feast that gospel hospitality provides.
Women's Retreat. Our 2016 retreat will be February 26-28 at the Lodge at Lake Guntersville. Come and learn more about what it means to be ROOTED in Christ's love. Information coming soon!

Advent Season at Covenant

There are several events and opportunities coming up at Covenant during the Advent season that you don’t want to miss:
-Christmas in Fairfield, our church-wide Christmas outreach project, will be kicking off in November. This is a wonderful way to spread the gospel and Christmas cheer to families in the nearby Fairfield community.
-The Chancel Choir Christmas concert is Sunday, December 6 in the Sanctuary, and it is always a wonderful evening of music that sets the tone for the season.
-The families of the Lovelady Center will again be joining us for dinner and a concert on December 9; you will be hearing soon about many ways that you can help share gospel hospitality that evening.

Local Outreach Highlight

The goal of Christian Service Mission, a Covenant Local Outreach partner, is to help the “least of these” by connecting resources with needs. This year they have brought together more than 40 different ministries to best serve our city by distributing more than 400,000 pounds of food, building or fixing more than 40 homes, coordinating more than 4,000 volunteers, and providing an 80,000 square-foot facility for staging and deploying other ministry projects. Your generous giving to Covenant has allowed us to partner with Christian Service Mission to serve our city. Thank you!
