Scheller College is 1st nationally in the 2015 Better World MBA Rankings



Georgia Tech's Scheller College of Business is 1st in the U.S. and 6th globally in Corporate Knights’ 2015 Better World MBA ranking, the definitive annual guide to which MBA programs are doing the best job preparing students to tackle the social and environmental challenges of our time.

The ranking reveals which MBA programs offer the best package of core courses, breath of faculty research, and support centers to foster the most comprehensive sustainability-oriented learning experience. This year's ranking focused on 121 programs including the 100 listed in the Financial Times (FT) 2015 Global MBA Ranking.

Center Launches Scheller Sustainability Fellows Program



The Ray C. Anderson Center for Sustainable Business selected its first ever class of MBA Fellows. The Scheller Sustainability Fellows program is an opportunity for students seeking a deeper engagement related to sustainability. Each year the Center will choose a limited number of Fellows who will receive a stipend as well as exclusive invitations to smaller Center events. In addition, MBA Fellows will have the opportunity to work with Center affiliated faculty members on a sustainability focused project aligned with their interests and goals.

The inaugural MBA class are Hrishikesh Joshi, who has a passion for recycling and wants to help enterprises "Make Green while Going Green"; Elizabeth Schultz, who seeks to gain expertise in sustainable product life cycles; and Dr. Sylvester Ashok, who is interested in sustainable global and urban strategy, and renewable energy.

Hirsch Named Director of Center for Serve-Learn-Sustain

 

Dr. Jennifer Hirsch has joined GA Tech as the first ever director of the Center for Serve-Learn-Sustain (newly renamed from Sustainable Communities Educational Initiatives Office). A transplant from Chicago, Hirsch is an applied cultural anthropologist  specializing in sustainable communities.

Serve-Learn-Sustain is Tech’s new quality enhancement plan (QEP), a key component for reaffirmation of accreditation in which a university must develop a long-term plan to support student learning that also reflects the Institute’s mission. Serve-Learn-Sustain will improve undergraduate education by developing academic courses and experiences that combine community engagement with sustainability. Beril Toktay (
Center faculty director ) and Ellen Zegura co-authored the QEP and are executive co-directors of Serve-Learn-Sustain. 

The Center looks forward to collaborating on Serve-Learn-Sustain initiatives that engage Scheller College students.

New Faculty Fellows to Advise on Sustainability with BBISS



Center associated faculty member Atalay Atasu was named one of the twelve inaugural fellows with the Brook Byers Institute for Sustainable Systems (BBISS). As such he will serve as an advisor to BBISS and work to foster the culture and community of sustainability researchers, educators, and students at Georgia Tech.

Georgia Tech Receives $30 Million Grant from The Kendeda Fund


Georgia Tech and the Kendeda Fund (a founding supporter of the Center) are partnering on a groundbreaking project to build a facility that meets the Living Building Challenge 3.0 criteria. The Living Building Challenge is a program, advocacy tool, and philosophy that defines the most advanced measure of sustainability possible in the current built environment. The project will be integrated into GT's Eco-Commons.
 

Climate Change and Humanitarian Aid:
Beril Toktay to Moderate Panel Discussion 10/28



Discover how some of France and America’s top humanitarian organizations are confronting issues related to climate change in this panel discussion. The panel will include representatives from CARE’s Poverty, Environment, and Climate Change Network (PECCN), Action Contre la Faim (Action Against Hunger), Groupe U.R.D., Climate @ Emory, and Emory University’s Laney Graduate School.

WHEN: October 28 | 3:30 – 6:30 p.m.

WHERE: Emory University Mathematics and Sciences Center

Dr. Omar Rodriguez-Vila



"Ultimately, my hope is that sustainability measures will help companies move from seeing sustainability simply as a moral imperative to something that can help drive growth."

An assistant professor of marketing, Rodriguez-Vila's research looks into the environmental and social sustainability benefits of brands, with a focus on understanding their relationship to business performance as well as the dynamics associated with the management of multiple stakeholders.

The Yellow Jacket's football season is upon us and GT's Game Day Recycling program, launched in 2008, makes it convenient for fans to recycle! To date, the program has diverted 145.9 tons of material from landfills.

The Ray C. Anderson Center for Sustainable Business launched in 2013 thanks to the generosity of the Ray C. Anderson Foundation and the Kendeda Fund. The Center was created as a catalyst, connector, and enabler, bringing together students, research faculty, companies, entrepreneurs, and other organizations in environments where business-driven solutions can take shape and thrive.
