Met deze nieuwsbrief willen we je informeren over actuele ontwikkelingen in het cultuurbeleid van de gemeente Eindhoven, die mogelijk grote gevolgen hebben voor CKE. Misschien heb je vanochtend al in het
Eindhovens Dagblad gelezen dat de nieuwe Stichting Cultuur Eindhoven in de
concept-cultuurbrief aan de gemeenteraad voorstelt om de subsidie aan CKE vanaf 2017 te halveren. CKE staat voor kunst en educatie en de bezuiniging zoals de Stichting Cultuur Eindhoven die voor ogen heeft, haalt de educatie uit de kunst.
In het hart geraakt
Dit plan raakt niet alleen CKE, maar ook vele inwoners van de gemeente Eindhoven en deze regio in het hart. Kunst- en cultuureducatie – onze
core business – staan namelijk aan de basis van creativiteit en het creërend vermogen van mensen. Dát is juist wat deze regio zo bijzonder maakt, of het nu gaat om design of om technologie. De kracht van CKE zit daarnaast ook in het samenbrengen en verbinden van mensen. Dat kunnen we dankzij onze omvang en ons multidisciplinaire karakter.
Wij gaan voor goed en zorgvuldig. Vier jaar geleden hebben we een lijn ingezet samen met de gemeente, waarin wij ons ontwikkeld hebben tot een veelzijdige culturele instelling. Wij hebben sindsdien 25% bezuinigd en ook al was dat niet altijd makkelijk, we kunnen wel zeggen dat CKE een solide, betrouwbare organisatie is met een begroting die op orde is. En we zijn nog lang niet klaar! Onze plannen om op een verantwoorde, organische manier door te ontwikkelen én te bezuinigen in de periode tot 2020 liggen klaar, maar worden nu abrupt eenzijdig doorkruist. Dat vinden wij onbegrijpelijk.
Vertrouwen op gezond verstand
De al jaren geleden ingezette lijn is succesvol en ook positief ontvangen door de politiek. Het kan niet zo zijn dat daar abrupt verandering in is gekomen. Daarom voeren wij op dit moment intensieve gesprekken met de fracties van politieke partijen, zijn we aanwezig bij commissievergaderingen, zetten wij en de leden van onze Raad van Toezicht onze netwerken in en zullen we tijdens de geplande inspraakavond op 10 november een vurig betoog houden. Want wat de Stichting Cultuur Eindhoven in de concept-cultuurbrief voorstelt, staat pas vast als de gemeenteraad daarover heeft beslist. Dat gebeurt op 15 december aanstaande.
De komende periode wordt dus heel spannend. Het is een onzekere tijd, maar we kunnen helaas niet veel verder kijken dan vandaag. Toch is het hele team van CKE enorm strijdvaardig en we hopen dat jullie dat met ons zijn. Wij vertrouwen op het gezonde verstand van alle betrokkenen, waar we de afgelopen jaren zo goed mee samengewerkt hebben.

Dear student, participant or party interested in CKE,
We would like to take this opportunity of informing you of the new developments in Eindhoven Municipal Council’s policy on culture, which could have serious consequences for CKE. You may have read in the
Eindhovens Dagblad this morning that in its concept paper on culture to the Municipality, the new Stichting Cultuur Eindhoven (Culture Foundation) has proposed halving the funding for CKE from 2017. CKE: the letters stand for art and education, and the cuts proposed by Stichting Cultuur Eindhoven take education out of the arts.
Strikes at the heart
This plan strikes at the heart of not only CKE, but also of many residents of Eindhoven and the surrounding area. Arts and culture education – our core business – are the foundation of people’s creativity and creative capabilities. That is exactly what makes this region so special, whether it concerns design or technology. CKE’s strength is also in bringing people together and connecting them. Our size and multidisciplinary nature make that possible.
Our objective is good and careful progress. Four years ago, we drew up plans, together with the Municipality, in which we have developed into a versatile cultural organisation. Since then, we have cut expenditure by a further 25%, and although that was not always easy, we can say with some assurance that the CKE is a solid, reliable organisation with its budget in order. And we’re not finished yet! Our plans for a responsible and organic continued development, including cuts, in the period up to 2020, have been completed, but are now being abruptly and one-sidedly scrapped. We simply cannot understand this.
Trust in common sense
The path set out years ago is successful, and has been positively received by policy makers. Surely it cannot be possible that this can have changed so suddenly. We are therefore holding intensive talks with representatives of political groups and attending council meetings. We, and the members of our own supervisory board, are mobilising our networks and intend to make a passionate plea on 10 November, during the planned public meeting. Because any proposal made by Stichting Cultuur Eindhoven in the concept culture paper is only definite if the council decides on it. That could happen on 15 December this year.
So the coming time will be nerve-wracking. It will be a period of uncertainty, but unfortunately, we cannot look much further ahead than today. Having said that, the entire team at CKE is extremely proactive, and we hope that you are all behind us. We trust in the common sense of all parties involved, with whom we have collaborated so well for so many years.
