  • Monday, January 11, 11:45 am at the Brule Town Hall

Progress on Issues

In 2015 a large slate of issues were brought by the Superior Days delegation to Madison.  These issues included: requests for road improvements, funding and access issues for healthcare and mental health, emergency services funding, and a variety of policy issues related to environmental policies and access.

Local Option Sales Tax for County Highways

Of all the issues presented in 2015, the issue that achieved the greatest momentum was the Local Option Sales Tax for County Highway Projects.  The local option sales tax would allow a county to seek a referendum for a ½% local sales tax to fund local road projects.  Douglas County is projected to raise $3.5 million annually from such a sales tax.  During the 2016-17 biennial budget debate, the local sales tax option picked up considerable momentum, and was even included in Assembly Bill 210.  In the end, the final budget did not include this option, but supporters in Madison still exist.
